Fresh from the brewer, this pours a clear light golden into the glass with a small head, quickly diminishing and little retention/lace. Honestly, I pick up a wet cat aroma, some sort of hopped "something-or-other" going on. I hate to say it, but I pick up a small amount of grainy corn (swill?) in the flavor dept. There are other notes, but they are muddy and not distinct; something between sour, citrus and veggies maybe? The mouthfeel is oily, and there may be a bit of sweetness at the end of the bitter(ish) finish. Not a great fan of this one, and I honestly find it hard to believe that this is "widely recognized as one of the finest German-style beers brewed in America." Not according to those on this site, it seems.

Bottle. Pours hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma of sweet malts, grain, and slight hops to the nose. Flavor is sweet up-front, spices, grain and a slight bitter finish. Good body, ok brew, drinkable.

Yellow/gold, with a white head. Aromas are grain, malt, and hops...somewhat harsh. Flavors are grain, malt, yeast, and a little pepper. I expected a little more from Stoudt’s.

Transparent and magnifying pale brass in color with a lovely, 1.5 inch tall laundry foam head at first, then recessing soon thereafter to only a hint of its former glory. Hops scuttlebutt golden baked potatoes, with consecutive nose pulls extracting corn husks, original Chex snack mix, musky lemon shard shavings, crescent rolls and soapy cleanser. Flavor’s a bit haphazardous. Aluminum, sourdough and a touch of paprika all rolled into one. Soapy lemon traits. Musky and husky cologne properties. Breezy, cornish tendencies. Easy going, with an off-centered pause on the palate before it fades into nothingness. Stale, musky bitterness with off flavors imparted on an every-other-sip basis. Corn Kix cereal and lemon lightness arrive in the finish by means of tin pipes, with barely any flavor lingering in its afterlife.

Bright straw-yellow body with substantial carbonation and a sudsy white head. Aroma of fresh cut honeydew, lemon, baking soda, and musty yeast. Flavor has some apparent residual sweetness and moderate balancing bitterness. Lightly grainy astringency plus noticeable acidic lager yeast characters. Passable, but not among the better helles beers.

sampled at brewery. Poured a light and cloudy golden body with a small white head. Aroma is a bit grainy with some bitter grass and malts present. Flavor is very malty with some wheaty characteristics, and a small earthy hop bite in the finish.

12oz bottle: Pours to a lightly hazy golden yellow with a medium white head. The aroma is light bready malts, grains, with some notes of grassy/floral hops that show a surprising amount of bitterness in the aroma, much moreso than I would expect, and feathery hints of yeast. The taste is light bready malt, sticky mildly sweet grains, plenty of light malty character along with some grassy/floral hops that show a moderate amount of bitterness. Light bodied, medium carbonation though somewhat syrupy and thick at times, though not at all full bodied.
