Hoppiness is there but it is tolerable. A good overall beer. Grade A IPA. biznizness (942), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA

I seem to remember the guy at Stoudt’s saying that they won’t be making this anymore... just the double. They are similar beers... nice hop aroma and flavor... nice mouthfeel. Top-notch IPA. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 11, 2004 765 bottle via DocLock, thanks dude! : Pours to a reddish coppery huw with a nice frothy off-white head and very good lace. The aroma has a earthy and mineral like background making it smell very traditional , moderate pine and floral hops, light citric background and spices also detected on the nose. The taste starts with a wonderful balance of bitters and sweet malts. Very smooth and you can tell this has been bottled conditioned. A nice grapefruity twang with some lime adds depth. The finish has a woody tone to it, some subdued resin, and just enough cleaning power on the palate to be refreshing. The feel is more layed back than many American brewed IPA’s, and this is a good thing. I like this quite a bit, does not try to overpower and lets the flavors smooth talk their way to the end of the bottle. TOP NOTCH! DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 1, 2004 Updated: Dec 2, 2004(765 ml bottle, $6.40) This is not a hugely hoppy IPA, but is very well crafted and nicely balanced. Flavorful, moderately malty, caramely, fruity and mildly sweet, with some very light roastiness. The hops is mildly bitter, but very fresh tasting, and the hops, along with a modest sourness, finishes the beer very nicely. There’s a bit of yeast flying under the radar. The nose is fairly subdued, but there’s a clear fresh hops aroma, as well as a slight sourness. Medium bodied, but substantial on the palate and quite smooth. Amber in color. Pours a very large, off-white head that fills half the glass. Retention is incredible, and so is the lacing, which is ringed, dense, and very intricate. A bit expensive, but extremly enjoyable and worth the price. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Hazy burnished copper coloured body with thin white head that diminishes to ring. Strong malt flavours and doughy yeast. Fine bubbled carbonation and medium body. Bottle enjoyed with Lubiere, MartinT, muzzlehatch and Rastacouere. Resampled with DumDum, MartinT, Nicholas, Olivier and Rastacouere (8-3-7-3-15=3.6). | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Oct 31, 2004 Cloudy amber color with a thick, off-white head. Spicy hops aroma with caramel. Flavor of spicy hops, caramel and mild malt, bitter finish. The caramel flavor especially is excellent. Full body, syrupy texture, medium carbonation. It’s complex and well-balanced, american IPAs are usually more hoppy but don’t have the complexity and body of this one. Many thanks to Rastacouere ! motelpogo (4394), Plzen, Czech Republic
