Sweet malty aroma with hints of butterscotch and light hops. This aroma almost comes across as more of a strong ale or barleywine. Smooth butterscotch like malty flavor, quite unique in fact. Very subtle hop flavor. Wonderful body, smooth mouthfeel. Finishes sweet, malty, with a candy like hop bitterness. Yeah... this stuff is tasty!

Aroma is lightly carameled, tinny and malt. Taste is dry with a bitter hoppiness and a sour pine taste. I’m also getting some brown sugar and molasses. Nice lacing, but the aroma turns me off right before I drink. jasonp (1513), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 24, 2004 Updated: Sep 25, 2004Vintage bottled on 1/22/02. Pours a dark amber brown with a thick beige head. Aroma is very malty with some floral hops. Taste is malty and sweet with notes of caramel, apple and ample hops. It is a stronger, maltier, hoppier version of a British IPA. Taste doesn’t resemble the cascade/centennial/columbus grapefruit assault of west coast IPAs - I didn’t pick up any strong notes of pine, resin or grapefruit. Taste is not that bitter and is a little sour with a slight apple cider aftertaste. Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth with subtle carbonation. Good lacing and head retention. Overall, a quality brew. desurfer (1068), Pinellas Park, Florida, USA

Aroma of grapefruit and pine, slightly sharp. Flavor is great, big hoppiness with lots of malty goodness rounding it out. Very full, rich mouthfeel and a dry finish. Smooth flavor that is hop centered yet in balance with the malt. Nice bitter finish.
A very good IPA. herbjones (742), Orange, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 30, 2004 Very solid brew. Not an ibu monster just well balanced. Probably one of the best in a while for me. Piney hop character that is not in your face. Biscuity/toast malt aspect lends to a creamy palate. scoobyluv (486), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA
