| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 10, 2004 EYES: Dark mellow walnut with ample thick protein ladden head. NOSE: A nice rose and grapefruit perfume combination that is soft and gentle but very like pine nuts. TONGUE: Again, pine nuts and honey tempered hops that are subdued into mellowness, rose petals and a complex of brown sugar and molasses treats. Great on the palate. OVERALL: A bit watered-down tasting, but not so much that it really effected my rating. Otherwise a very nice rendition of a style that is often taken to too far an extreme. This is a mellow, yet hoppy, brew that is complex, interesting and a true pleasure to drink. Silphium (2152), Haslett, Michigan, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 9, 2004 This held up nicely for being a year and a half old (bottled 29 Jan. 2003). Awesome appearance- deep, hazy red-brown with a medium-thick light tan head, very dark for an IPA. Earthy, bitter hiops aroma with light pine and caramel. Caramely, very bready flavor, biscuity and earthy with slightly spicy and piney hops, the hops being nowhere close to overwhelming but instead nicely complementing the malty body. There was a "hollowness" that developed after the initial flavors, perhaps a function of age. Rather subtle, creamy and smooth. Me like. Kåstå (1149), Mol, Belgium
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 2, 2004 WCCII: Dark amber, slightly cloudy beer with a medium creamy head. Dominant hop aroma. The hop taste is somewhat milder than the aroma. Quite ok. Indra (2036), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jun 22, 2004 Bottling date is a little smudged, but appears to be Jan. of 2003. 750ml. Fruity, flowery hop aroma, citric and lightly piney with notes of lemon and orange peel, tangerine and some toasty malt sweetness. Dark reddish amber color, quite opaque, with a lush, creamy head and bountiful lace. Flavor profile is initially impelled by lightly toffeeish and dark honeyish malt sweetness, but is overtaken with the expected wash of hop flavors, fruity and mildly earthy, providing a fair amount of bitterness that has no doubt diminished significantly since this bottle’s inception, but provides a wondrous level of balance all the same. Palate is lavishly creamy, borne by the medium-full body and mellow effervescence. Dangerously drinkable. An excellent IPA. Cheers, Jeff! aceboxer (15), Cary, North Carolina, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 20, 2004 Wow. Why I waited so long to try this gem is beyond me. Hazy deep sunset reds and oranges, thick foamy lasting off-white head. Straight up notes of pine, citric fruit, fresh caramel coated biscuits, earthy and floral. Citric hops seem to balance out the sweet caramel and toffee undertones quite well. Medium bodied, fizzy carbonation, soft bitter finish. Great news that this will be part of the everyday 12oz bottle lineup. For now though, this 765ml bottle kicks ass! It’s a nice change of pace from the hop monsters out there. whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 11, 2004 Vintage date: 1/29/03. Cinnamon color, hazy body, and velvety, lasting off-white head. Caramel malt, light hop aromatics, and a nice hint of diacetyl. Flavor of toasty caramel malt, brown butter, roasted nuts, and some subtle woody, earthy, and citrus hop qualities. Ultra-smooth. A very nice, impressive English style IPA. Demonstrates how far off the style most other American-made IPAs have creeped.
