Mild citrus floral hoppy and biscuity malty aroma. Well balanced medium intense floral aromatic hops and low sweetness malt flavours. Nice one. atpayne (615), Zionsville, Indiana, USA

It has a thick piney hop aroma and a smell that I’d describe as ’big’. The flavor is quite hoppy but with a nice ballancing malt sweetness. It has a very nice overall feel to it. The hops are not harsh, but mellow, but at the same time, you know they are there. They aren’t hiding. They sit on the toung and play with the malt flavors which ballance them nicely. jeffin7 (610), Silver Spring, Maryland, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 26, 2004 Aroma of citrusy hops balanced with a nice malt backing. The balance is actually very well done. guzzler67 (1286), Hanover, Maryland, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 23, 2004 Deep amber appearance that looked thick as it poured, with a huge head that faded slowly. Aroma was filled with pine and citrus. Fruity flavor shared the spotlight with a well balanced taste; the hops dominated at first but the malts smoothed out the finish. Full-bodied mouthfeel (did I mention how thick this IPA was?) Very tasty. axilla (962), New Providence, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Apr 23, 2004 Dark muddy brown color with a foamy off-white head. Very sweet fruity hop aroma. Smooth tasting. A bit maltier than most ipa's. Some alcohol taste. Very good though. Just a little more hop bite could give it an imperial ipa taste. Another near favorite in catagory. erway (1002), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Apr 8, 2004 Pours a deep amber with a nice head that only bottle-conditioning can give. Very little hop aroma. Nice malt balance with a descent amount of diacetyl but this is seriously lacking in bitterness. Boring. Way too little hops, and I mean from all aspects. Very little dry hops. I am truly surprised by how over-rated this beer is. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Apr 7, 2004 The first perfect score I have ever given, and I'll tell you why. I will remember this day right up there with my wedding day, the birth of my son, my graduation from Penn State, and my first piece of ass. Pours a great turbid orange/light brown color with great head and super lacing. Great aroma of citrus, strong hops, florals, and fruit. Tastes extremely hoppy, with a firm malt base. Overtones of hops, malt, grapefruit, lemon, honey, white grapes, chardonnay, and brown sugar. This reminds me somewhat of the Dogfish 90 minute, but it is amazingly well balanced. It isn't the hoppiest, or the maltiest, or the fruitiest, or the most citrusy, but rather it is the sum of the parts that make this beer perfect for its style, in my opinion. Finishes very smooth with a hoppy, malty, fruity, floral blast on the palate at the end. Well hidden alcohol, but somewhat thick on the palate (not a bad thing here), very firm, dense, and solid. Superb. I call this one "The Elixir of the Gods". Just like Sherlock Holmes said, "When you remove the impossible, whatever is left, however improbable, must be the truth". I checked and rechecked every subcategory, and cannot in good conscience deduct any points from this one. My truth is that this is a 5.0. My only complaint is that I laid one down, and after 6 months to a year, I can't very well go above 5.0. Oh well, I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. My compliments to Carol Stoudt for this one. Keep kicking ass and taking names, Carol. Cheers. warrior (213), Mt. Wolf, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 25, 2004 Superb hop aroma dominates, nice fresh resiny hop. This was a 765 ml bottle conditioned beer made at Stoudt's brewery. Hazy dark amber colored beer with a decent head and good lacing. Great hop flavor with a good malt sweetness to balance. This is an excellent IPA that has to be one of the Best Stoudt beers that I have had. Great job on this beer Carol!
