Heavy carbonation, not super foamy. I ended up with a two inch head.(Insert joke here) Buttery, fruity(grapes and sour apple)and toasted malt flavor. Starts to get that high ABV scent. Watery bitter finish. Classic english ipa. Might have suffered due to location in store. Sunlight was hitting it. Re-Rate had to bump up the aroma. I went back to a glass I left from night before and got wonderful berry like aroma hoppygrrrl (104), Albion, Michigan, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 16, 2003 Dense, deep, murky orange in color with flecks of yeast. This ale has a really sweet, flowery, barleywine-like aroma emanating from a shiny sea of tiny, lasting bubbles. Lightly hoppy, lightly effervescent, quite malty, wonderfully yeasty and creamy. Delicious. It leaves tingles on your tongue, and the bitter and sweet are nicely balanced. Schroppfy (1813), Ohio, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jun 16, 2003 Unclear bottle date from 2002. Aroma is musty leather, wet clay, plum, watermelon, and a hint of anise. Incredibly rich, gorgeous doubly dark amber, lasting tiny bubbled head, thick with yeast, completely unpasteurized/unfiltered. Flavor is bittersweet - elements of Hershey's Special Dark Chocolate, viney grapes, wet earth and grass - absolutely delicious - I'm not getting citrus or pine at all. A world class English Style IPA. Kraftbrau's Olde Packing Quilte and Shipyard Fuggles are delightful but don't approach this. ravidesai (915), Bombay, India

taste hasa malty start, followed by a big dose of grsfruit and floral hops, mellows off to a sticky lemon hoppiness.
Earlier Rating: 4/22/2003 Total Score: 3.8 (cask)very nice IPA. they seem to have dropped the Y2K name now.

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 10, 2003 (765ml bottle): Copper body topped by medium beige head that persists. Aroma is strong -- grapefruit, pine, sticky-sweet, malt (caramel/toffee), and alcohol. Taste is minimal up front, before the hops kick in -- big pine/grapefruit, sticky sweet, malty (caramel/toffee), finishing bitter (grapefruit/floral) and sweet. Big full body. Interesting cross between an American and English IPA -- the hops say American, but the malts say English. Effect is "light" barleywinish. hayden1215 (305), Ohio, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | May 15, 2003 Pours a dark amber with a gently lacing head. Aroma of caramel malt, butterscotch, cookie dough and even some clover. Smooth caramel chocolate flavor and a mellow sweet finish. This is a far cry from the typical west-coast IPAs, hence the English style, and is quite refreshing. A great IPA, brewed in its original style. jskendzel (602), Washington DC, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 15, 2003 Garnet red with a thick, off-white head. Sweet caramel and honey. Slightly estery bitterness. A subtle brew and not as harsh as some others. Just didn't strike a high note with me, though.
