I was a little wary of how this guy would hold up. I had some Victory Hop Devil that did not hold up too well, but this one, this one held up very nice. Pours a nice orangey copper and a good solid head. Nice herby and somewhat citrusy hop aroma, even for a bottle thats a bit old. Nice big malty flavors with some caramel. The hops are much subdued in flavor, as to be expected. Moderate bitterness without any harsh bite. Finishes fairly cleanly, with a small lingering bitterness. This is an excellent beer as it is now - it must have been insanely awesome fresh. 11026 (1779), Alabama, USA

This has aged quite well and probably would have stood up to the trip to India back in the day. The beer is a hazy amber color with a decent white head. Medium bodied and still well carbonated. Woody?, caramel and slightly oxidized aroma. Feels and tastes more like a subdued BW. Nice sweet caramel malt flavor, a bit of oxidation in flavor, still a decent hop bitterness in the finish. Quite nice. Pailhead (2597), Allen Park, Michigan, USA

Never realized what aging can do to an IPA. Malty and flowery citrus aroma. Pours a mostly tranparent amber with an off-white head. Lots of malt up front. Strong caramel presence with a decent banana bread flavor as well. A very light hop presence in the finish. A light oxidation in the finish as well, which works in this case. Really seems more like a barley wine and tasting this blind, that was my guess for style. This past weekend (6/4) they were serving what they had labled as IPA. It was nasty sweet. I have had some IPAs that were so bitter that they almost had a sweet aftertaste, but this was just like syrup. BuckNaked (1204), Tempe, Arizona, USA

Aroma: I can tell that this beer is aged, the hops are still present in the aroma (citrus, pine) but are quite mild - more of a compliment to the aroma rather than THE aroma. There’s also a great deal of earthy caramel, some fruit, and a hint of slightly oxidized malts. Medium-fuill body with medium levels of carbonation that are just enough to keep tingling the tongue and mouth yet not so much that it feel like drinking club soda. Taste is mostly caramel, with the hops taking a backseat to the malt, as well as some yeast, and some hints of sugary fruit. Unfortunately it does seem a bit oxidized (dry cardboard flavors), but it’s not to the point where I wouldn’t drink it. GonZoBeeR (2163), ste-Eulalie, Quebec, Canada

Pours a dirty amber with a huge fluffy off white head. A light fruitty and citrusy aroma. The palate is very light and refreshing. Slight orange hop flavor with a caramel/toffee malt balance. Surprisingly well balanced brew. Very impressive.
