Sweet, malty aroma with a surprising amount of Continental hops. Very rich flavor, but I think they overhopped the thing: the finish is too bitter and has that earthy tang which in too many fests comes off as metallic and unpleasing. joshwilfong (787), Cleveland, Ohio, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 15, 2007 light copper appearance with slight carbonation. nose is sweet with a malty taste that lacks depth and finishes with an odd bitter aftertaste. a rather disappointing beer and not a very good version of a marzen. not their best effort VeloVampire (490), Parkdale, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 15, 2007 12 oz bottle - this one pours clear deep gold with a good-sized off-white head. There is a much more assertive hop aroma in this compared to other Oktoberfest/Marzen beers I’ve had, but the sweet malt is still certainly there. A surprising amount of dry cocoa in the nose as well. More toasty malt flavours with a subtle bitterness in there as well. Kind of a jumble of parts that aren’t all that well-integrated. Dry finish. Thin bodied with a slightly metallic quality, this is a decent beer, but perhaps not the best example of the Oktoberfest style. bp (458), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Oct 9, 2007 #100 - took me forever. Bottle: felt like having a marzen this evening and this was the only one in my fridge. Golden clear pour with a thin head, a light hoppy aroma, taste is quite malty and a slight bitter finish, nothing special here but not the worst of some of the recent Oktoberfest brews that I have picked up. | 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Oct 7, 2007 Draft at the Lancaster Arts Hotel bar...everthing about this beer was thin...pours transparent gold-amber in color, no real head to speak of...very thin aroma of malt, a little sweet, a little grassy...taste was thin, little fizzy, metallic...maybe I was just expecting more from this one. gearbike (418), West Bloomfield, Michigan, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 6, 2007 Golden clear pour. Medium body although very malty. Sweeter than most oktoberfest. Just plain drinkable. mctous (119), Herndon, Virginia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 5, 2007 The aroma nicely balances malt and hops, while the pour has plenty of firmness and hop lacing. The flavor resembles a Dortmunder rather than a typical Marzen. The hops are beautifully extracted, evidenced both in the flavor and palate. This Oktoberfest is a very good beer but does not reflect the style.
