As a result I was not at all surprised when it was thin and watery. The flavor is a little hoppier and much less malty than a typical oktoberfest as well. I’d take it over a typical cheap mass market lager, but that’s not saying a lot. Oh well, it sure did wash down my dinner like a champ. If you’re curious, I had 3.5 ears of corn and a microwave soft pretzel and a little snack size can of diced peaches. Curse you, Stoudt’s, for making up such a substantial part of my food budget for today. SSSteve (2086), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

I had very much been looking forward to trying this beer. As we finally got the Stoudts to send it to us… but now it’s gone.
The beer pours a nice amber hued body and a thick cap of head. The aroma is more hoppy than I was expecting. The flavor is rather bready, sourdough, a little grainy, like cracked wheat. There is a dry neatly spicy but rustic hops in the finish.
Compared next to the Penn Octoberfest, the Stoudt’s has more hop bitterness and less caramel sweetness to be placed.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 4, 2006 Updated: Oct 8, 2006Pours an amber-orange with a thin, mostly receding light tan head. Aroma of toasted malt, bread dough, some higher alcohols, grainy lager yeast, and metallic yeasty notes. Taste is grassy, grainy, and bready. Malty enough to be an Oktoberfest, but perhaps a bit thin compared to some of the better examples. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with lively carbonation. An enjoyable beer, another solid German style from Stoudt’s. themadmumis (344), Westminster, Maryland, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Oct 4, 2006 Slightly above average Marzen that pours dark. Hops are evident but not strong enough for a better balance. Malt was rough with some sort of graininness? Worth a once over.
