Courtesy of CaptainCougar. Opaque amber body with a medium beige head. The nose is sweet caramel and pine with some caramel and bourbon. The flavor is mildly sweet, and fairly watery with caramel, pine, grapefruit, bourbon, vanilla and raisins. Medium/full body is thin with light carbonation.

Bottle, thanks Captain Cougar. Older bottle... I think a barley wine should age better but I found the oxidation didn’t bother me at all. Poured dark muddy brown with beige head. Tangy, sour-bourbon-mash nose with bits of sweet vanilla, chocolate, brown sugar. Brandyish character. Easily tasty flavor throughout, smooth, brown-sugar-caramel malty, mild bitterness and a warming whiskey finish. Thin but lively MF, long sweet, malty and boozy aftertaste.

750ml shared by CaptainCougar. Dark rusty brown color, small head. Heavy oxidation hits the nose, wood and cherry-scented caramel malt... flavor of tannic and dry wood is nice, but faily mild and subdued. Some notes of wet bread throughout, a light sweetness more resembling brandy than whisky. Okay stuff.

750mL bottle, CaptainCougar. Thanks, Tom! Pours a slightly hazy, orange-amber color; light tan head with patchy lacing. Lots of candy sugar, dried red fruits, and brown sugar in the aroma; toasty oak and lots of sweetness. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: sweet, toasty oak, brown sugar, and dried dark fruits; lots of sticky sweetness and minimal acidity; generous, but slightly singular taste profile; toasty, soft bourbon presence. Reasonable, soft stuff. Medium finish: bready malts, brown sugar, and dried fruit; lacking some concentration.

750ml via trade a ways back. I was looking for a good barleywine, and a good sipper for tonight. Shared with my girlfriend Cyn. Pours a deep copper brown, with a nice tan head. Nose is big, big enough to smell from a far, its sweet with dark fruits and certainly a nice whiskey nose as well. Sweet whiskey tinged taste with a bit of an oxidized feeling, not sure how oxidized it is. With more sips its clear that its got some life in it, and the oxidation may be my imagination, hey that rhymes. Overall good as it warms, though I didn’t chill it all that much.
