750ml bottle. Poured a deep and hazy amber color with a large sized off white head. Aromas of wood, caramel, toffee, light whisky, and some dark fruits. Tastes of caramel, light vanilla, light whisky (but more than the aroma), brown sugar, dark fruits, and light wood. The barrel aging was on the very subtle side.

Bottle... Hazy amber ale with lots of fizzy, champagne-like bubbles hugging the side of my glass. Small, fizzy, off-white to khaki head with excellent retention. Oak, whiskey, caramel and vanilla permeate my nose. Lightly sweet flavor with caramel, adequate bitterness and understated whiskey. A well-balanced barley wine that does not disclose its high volume of alcohol. Medium-bodied and fizzy. Finishes pretty crisp and fairly clean with just a whisper of caramel sweetness and whiskey warmth. Thanks to hopdog for sending this gem of a beer down my way!

Sampled on 2/3/07 courtesy of TheBeerCellar2: Pours a transparent copper amber with a well-lacing off-white head. Aroma of semi-sweet toasty caramel with some mild bitterscotch and dry, earthy oak. Body starts with some malty sweetness drying out toward a toasty earthy finish. Seems fairly well-balanced but not all that bold.

Bottle, 75cl corked. (RBNAG 07) It looks pretty in the glass, much more pretty than the label, with an almost clear, deep golden body, and an off-white head leaving lacings. The nose is malt based, with a sweetish touch and a nice American-style hop level. The sort of beer that I could bury my nose is for hours. The flavor is a more hop-dominated than I would like, without being to bitter, but it’s sure malty and sweet too. It has a full body, but still feels watery in a way. The finish is fruity, hoppy and sweet. Except for it being a bit thin and having a slightly unbalanced flavor, it’s a wonderful beer. Thanks to the_epeeist for providing it. (071103)
