| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 6, 2009 Pours clear copper with microscopic tan head. The aroma is malty to caramel sweet to go along with some raisins, prunes and a mild level of pine hops. The taste is neutral to start and then moves into sweetness with sweet sugary malts, prunes, raisins and figs. It seems to thin out a bit by midway with more dark fruitiness and brown sugar. Tasty stuff. pantani (1902), Salinas, California, USA

Not too familioar with the style. 25oz champagne bottle. Pours a clear dark mahogany ruby color with a thin head that doesn’t last. Big nose of hops. Smooth, silky, sweet malt up front but plenty of hops to balkance with alcohol in back. I enjoyed this bottle with a nice home-grilled London Broil and a spinach salad. Great stuff. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 13, 2009 Thanks to leftmindedrighty who traded this one to me a long time ago. I have an oaked age one in my beer que so here goes. I poured my caged and corked 750 into my dogfish head snifter it produced two finger worth of tan head that left a thick coat of lace. The body of the brew was deep amber colored.
Aromas of sweet caramel and surprisingly some hops aroma as well. The flavors aren’t as sweet as I am used to on a barleywine either it is very balanced in its flavors. The grainy sweetness and the hops help keep this brew very drinkable. It has a medium feel to the mouth and little carbonation for my tongue
A good drinking barleywine I can’t wait to try the oaked age one. Thanks again
