Bottle from JB175. Thanks man! Pours copper with an off white head. Aroma is sweet malt and grain. Flavor is very sweet and fruity...not much in the way of hops. Decent texture and easy to drink.

Bottle pours amber color with off white head. Has nice malty aroma with some detectible oxidation setting in. Flavor follows aroma and has an orange citrus twang to the taste with malt, dark fruit, and some subtle sweetness. Medium mouthfeel. Overall a really nice brew.

Thanks Eli. Pours dark translucent brown color, slightly hazy with a medium tan head. The aroma has some hoppy characteristics with a bit of a soapy note. The flavor is really dry and bitter, yet has a very strong up-front sweetness. A thin body that leaves a pretty strong bitterness on the tongue. Not a great barley wine.

20080329 Blind tasting notes and score from Cornboy 2nd annual Barleywine Extravaganza. Crazy piss and armpit aroma, sulfur. Luckily this one was pretty bland because it was not too good, somewhat redeeming aftertaste of dried old citrus. Body also quite thin as if wood aging had sucked the life right out of it.

Bottle. Pours a dark amber ruby body with an off white head. Sweet malty caramel, with notes of dark fruits and skins. Lightly hopped a bit earthy. Decent.

750ml corked and caged bottle. Thanks to MrBendo for this. Pours a very hazy ruby red color with a big foamy white head that has pretty good retention. Aroma is subtle. Malty, barley, crackers. Some subtle leafy hops are still noticeable but it is faint. I’ve had a couple older vintages of JW Lee’s Harvest Ale that haven’t held up too well and this reminds me of those. Not that this is bad it’s just quite subtle and uncomplex. Alcohol not noticeable but at 8.5% I don’t know how much of a compliment that is. Taste is smooth, a little watery, very drinkable with the same crackery, malty flavor the aroma hinted at. Sweetness is low and the body is relatively light. This reminds me more of an old DIPA that has lost its hops rather than a Barley Wine, it lacks the punch and power of a good young BW.

Big ups to foureyedgeek for sharing. Clear bronze with a decent off-white head. Smells spicy and oaky with caramel, bread, and alcohol. Kinda mellow flavor, with caramel, soap, cinnamon, cardboard and grains. Interesting, but rather subdued and dull.

9/17/08 - 22 oz. bomber courtesy of foureyedgeek, shared with Exec Board. Pours amber with light khaki head. Nose is vaporous and carbonic with muted caramel and mild dish detergent. Tate is bitter wit hcaramel and lots of astringency. Mild oak flavors, slightly soapy and very homebrew-esque. Eli fooled us!!!
