| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 21, 2008 Appearance: Pours a clear, ruby-hued body totally lacking any head, but it’s from out a growler, so it is to be expected.
Smell: Aroma smelling of piney, earthy hop notes and toasted toffee and caramel.
Taste: Caramel, toffee maltiness with a slight hint of toasted breadcrusts and mild sweetness. Earthy hops with a flavor of pine and leafy hints. Touch of fruit. Medium-high bitterness, though. Subtle alcohol warmth. Drying, bitter finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Mild carbonation.
Drinkability: Not the best barleywine out there, that’s for sure. Some are more-ish, leaving you eager for the next sip. This keeps you sipping just to be finished with it. CaptainCougar (5459), Rockville, Maryland, USA

Aroma of fresh citrusy and piny hops with a good caramel maltiness and some light fruity esters. Body starts with good fullness and sweet caramel flavor with a fairly assertive grapefruity hop balance before a drier, crisp finish. A pretty nice barleywine. ATLBeerDog (280), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
