On cask at the brew pub. Cellar temperature in 12oz glass. Poured a deeper ruby red color with a larger sized, frothy, off white head. Aromas of caramel, toffee, pine (stronger at first then subsided), and some cherries. Softer tastes of caramel, toffee, grapes, and citrus. Slightly on the vinous side too. Smooth body that was way too easy to drink. Alcohol content hidden. I could sit down and drink this all day.

cask at brewery. Poured a cloudy red/brown color body with a rocky white head. Sweet carmel and mollasses on the nose with a little alcohol. Very mellow but full flavored. I’m getting mostly carmel and raisins but there is a good bit of citrus in the finish. An incredibily easy to drink barleywine.

Had this in the back of the beer refrig for about a year. Not too familioar with the style. 25oz champagne bottle. Pours a clear dark mahogany ruby color with a thin head that doesn’t last. Big nose of hops. Smooth, silky, sweet malt up front but plenty of hops to balkance with alcohol in back. I enjoyed this bottle with a nice home-grilled London Broil and a spinach salad. Great stuff.

On tap at Ortino’s Northside... Appears a turbid, russett toned amber with a small white head that fades into a small cap and collar. Spotty streaks of lacing are left around the glass. Smell is of vanilla, American Oak, dark fruit, caramel, sugar, roasted nuts, and mild citrus blasts. Taste is of the mentioned aromas with oak tannins taking over the brew. Mouthfeel is smooth with light syrup...the smoothest barleywine that I remember having, especially being this young. Overall, it’s a nice tasting, slightly sweet brew with an oakiness that seems to take over the brew.

Bottle, courtesy Ibrew2or3. Copper pour, hazy, thick lacing, thick head. Big sharp woodsy notes with caramel. Charred, some unique spices. Dark caramel flavors, and chocolate, grainy, wheat and some roast. Spicy. Full-bodied, sharp and drinkable.

courtesy of ibrew2or3. Pours copper with white head. Aroma is malty, with a honey like nose, hops overly sweet and light malts. Taste, malty, light touch of brown sugar and caramel, smooth with a fruity after taste and hoppy finish.

Sampled from a growler: Pours a transparent bright copper with a small froth of light tan head. Aroma of fresh citrusy and piny hops with a good caramel maltiness and some light fruity esters. Body starts with good fullness and sweet caramel flavor with a fairly assertive grapefruity hop balance before a drier, crisp finish. A pretty nice barleywine.

Notes from Christmas 2006. Pours hazy brownish ruby edged, with minimal off-white head. Aroma is caramel malty, with some figgy fruit, bourbon, wet hops, brown sugar, plum. Tastes palate hefty with an initial caramel malty and figgy flavor, with the backup wet hops, brown sugar, and slightly rauchy notes at the end. Complex.
