Slightly sticky mouth, medium lace, especially toward the bottom of the glass. Interesting taste; started off with a nice citrus, but then the bitter comes in, and stays around quite a long while. Not quite my style, I’m afraid. Juelze (906), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 22, 2008 Trade from Ross, thanks man! I’ve been waiting to taste this one ever since I read Matta’s encounter with the Czech dude who cracked one open in a grocery store. Anyway, let’s get to the beer. Pours out a beautiful clear yellow color with big frothy white head that fades quickly leaving nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is grassy and sharp, with notes of floral hops and light bread notes. Taste is grassy and citrus hops with a dry malt backbone. Carbonation is moderate and the finish is dry and clean. Overall, it’s good stuff, but I’ve been spoiled with fresh New Glarus Edel Pils. otakuden (518), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 20, 2008 My very first pilsner was, of course, Pilsner Urquell. It was at a bar in a hotel in Orlando where my bud Craig and I met up for dinner and a drink. I am third generation Czech; my dad’s dad moved to Vero Beach, FL and started our family business and we have been living here since. I have great pride in my roots and heritage and where I grew up and where I also came from so I was very excited to drink the original pilsner that started it all. Since then, I am always on the look-out for a good, traditionally inspired pilsner.
Stoudt’s Pils pours a beautiful golden grass, slightly cloudy, and with a good finger-sized head of fluffy foam. The head recedes into a thin layer of white on top with lacings on the sides as I drink. Grass, earth, and lemon in the nose. Grass and bitter lemon rind in the palate. The earthen grassiness fills the body while the bitter lemon bites at the top of my tongue, making you notice the different flavor profiles of this very exquisite German Style Pilsner. A nicely full, smooth body for a pilsner, the hop oils lightly coats my mouth while hints of floral mingle with the grassy palate. For a full body, Stoudt’s Pils has a bright, crisp, and clear presence which makes a very refreshing and easily quaffable impression. As she warms and the level in my glass diminishes (much to my delight and despair) the grass, floral presence, and oily bitter lemony hop presence melds into one perfectly balance palate of Pilsner perfection.
Overall, a very full, smooth, earthy grassy lemon hoppy pilsner from Stoudt’s that is to this date, probably the best pilsner I have drank. Granted, I haven’t tasted many yet, but Stoudt’s Pils is up there at the top of my beer bliss list. wetherel (1636), Encinitas, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 17, 2008 Bottle from kmweaver. Thanks Ken! This is one of the styles that I am missing. I think this is also one of the highest rated German Pilseners. Classic Saaz hop aroma (unfortunately similar to skunked beer aroma)..and lots of it. High bitterness, which is actually pretty nice, almost a pale ale, except the color is a pale yellow. Small foamy small-bubble head with a heavy pour. Served very cold. Relatively easy to drink as to be hoped with low ABV. Oddly enough, I quite enjoy it, mostly because of the high drinkability. I don’t have to sip, and can drink the entire pint, which is usual for me lately. I bring all of my strong beers to tastings, because there’s no way I could finish them myself. I suppose you could call it dry, but I sense a small malty sweetness. Reminds me a bit of wheat beer. MrChopin (649), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 15, 2008 Transparent gold with small white head. Nose is mainly hop with some grass. More malt in the flavor, but still not very significant and the bitterness rules. Its also lacking the crisp quality that I find in my favorite pilsners. Still, I could enjoy 4-5 of these. kiefdog (1628), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Aug 9, 2008 12oz bottle from Jans Wine and Boos#2 (Tampa, FL). Pours a crystal clear bright yellow color with a two finger white foamy head that settles slowly and provides nice lacing. Aroma is wheaty and grassy with notes of spice, pine, and slight floral notes. Flavor is grassy and wheaty with a nutty almost peanut butter like notes in the middle. Some spice and bread as well. Generally light-bodied with slightly hoppy finish. DrDavid (957), Johnson, Vermont, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 8, 2008 (Bottle). Aroma of hops and grass. Mid-yellow color with a moderate creamy white head. Delicious hoppy flavor, cushioned with hay notes, and with a moderate bitter finish that lingers. Excellent iteration of a German pils. Beershine (2710), Traipsing Around, Cambodia

Herbal, grassy, aromatic hops. Smooth, soft mouthfeel. Clean, balanced, crisp bitterness like biting into a fresh leaf of Endive. Not a bad pils, not terribly exciting either and reminds me a lot of a solid Bavarian hellas.
