Great appearance: clear reddish-copper color with a large, lasting white head. Aroma is caramel, roast, nuts, and citrus. Flavor is caramel and Maris Otter malt, orange/citrus, nuts, and floral hop bitterness on the finish. Palate is smooth with medium body and soft carbonation. Overall very solid. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Oct 11, 2009 A very good bitter. Spicy flavor of malt, nutmeg, and orange peel on a silky mouthfeel. I would definitely buy this again. Rciesla (3670), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA

Malty bittersweet body, caramel with light spices and a floral bitter hoppy body. Nutty with a light citrus note and a bitter finish. Nice. ROGUE (676), Newark, Delaware, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 28, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours a clear copper color with with red highlights and a thick off white head that leaves lacing throughout. The smell is mainly toasted caramel malts. Has a sweet malty taste with a very bitter hop finish. Fairly light body with lots of soft carbonation. An ok ESB.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 25, 2009 Situation: a night off from the to-do list...
Glassware: Ommegang Rare Vos...
Appearance: slightly opaque, dark chestnut red body with a thick, attractive nestling of bubbly off-white head....nice, yet inconsistent lacing on glass as it drains....
Aroma: soft, understated malts with only a late hop fragrance--hints at easy drinking to come...
Palate: solid, slightly oily body that is rather smooth to the throat; malts steady the tongue nicely...
Taste: smooth, dry taste reminiscent of a bock in its malty strength; lingering aftertaste holds slightly nutty notes...
Overall: pleasant but not overstated in any facet of flavor--a nice case filler or case by itself... though smoother, nuttier, more buttery ESBs can be found, this pleases the tastebuds just fine...

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 16, 2009 [from a 12 oz bottle] Small head on this one. Aroma malty, not much yeast surprisingly.
It’s incredibly smooth but aside from caramel I don’t get a ton from this beer. It drinks incredibly easily - a standout example of a perfect session beer.
To summarize: accolades for smoothness, not complexity. patrickfannon (345), Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, USA
