| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 4, 2005 Draft. A little reddish in the glass. Didn’t know what exactly to expect. Aromas are faint, but there is some fruit, some hay and malt all mixed up. Palate is long, twisting and turning like a rollercoaster. Flavor is rich, malty, with an of-the-earth hop bite and a bitter but pleasant finish. My only criticism is that all of these components really don’t meld. They are distinct and separate. But good, and there is terroir in this beer. Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 4, 2005 Ricklikbeer, thanx. Amber reddish body with large creamy off white head. Head diminished to small and hung around. Aroma of malts and hops. Crisp taste, mouth feel is midlevel. There was some bitterness as it finished. But I did not detect much sweetness. Good but not a session beer. Silphium (2152), Haslett, Michigan, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 3, 2005 Clearish copper orange body, thin off-white head. Earthy, biscuity aroma with caramel and light fruit. Sweet, fruity, caramely body with grassy, earthy hops mostly as a backdrop. Almost a hint of strawberry in here. Rather thin-bodied but still tasty. Thanks Dan (jah noth) for the bottle! jah noth (1020), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 27, 2005 Pours a stunning red amber with a soft and large fluffy head. Perfumy aroma is laced with cherry Children’s Tylenol. Sweet cherry flavor is well balanced with a subtle bitterness. Interesting beer, for sure, more of a west coast red than an ESB. richlikebeer (832), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 19, 2005 Very nice, almost red (guess thats why they call it scarlet lady ale) with plenty of foamy head, faded down to cover the top throughout. Nose is very malty, I didn’t pick up on any of the other tones they advertised. Taste is very smooth, the bitterness only really takes over at the end, and the body is pretty much down the middle. Overall, I think it’s a nice beer, but I don’t think i could make a whole session out of the bitterness. barleyPops (1081), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 18, 2005 Thanks to DocLock for this exceptional brew. bottle, pours a crystal clear tarnished copper color. much better than what I was expecting. the one other ESB I had sampled was 10 times more bitter than this one. This was a bit malty but balanced perfectly with just some bitterness. it would have been very easy to knock down several of these. I am continually impressed by Stoudt’s!!! shadey (1501), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 15, 2005 Scarlet color (I guess?) with no real head. Malty aroma. Pretty nice malty flavor with nothing real special to speak of. Above average ESB.
