Peaty nose and classic scotch malt taste with a burst of hops at the end, mostly grassy with hints of citrus. Thick, rich, and quenching my big thirst. A great to-style beer with a bit extra at the end! aracauna (2391), Georgia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 14, 2004 Very dark brown with a puffed-up light khaki head. The eaty, smoky aroma has little hints of coffee and toffee. The flavor is heavily peaty with some dark malt flavors lingering around, but there’s a metallic bitterness in the end that detracts from the overall a bit. Overall, this is a pretty good Scotch ale. Deep muddy brown, just a hint of red. Bubbly, puffy tan head. Nose very peaty, lots of malts, definitely some chocolate. Excellent malty character, very scotchy and earthy. Peat, wood, smoke, and a nice chocolate tone. Bit of bitterness, just light, enough to make the tongue interested. Good creaminess. An excellent scotch ale. Nice deep brown with amber highlights and a moderate head. Smell is slightly smoky and very malty but has become slightly oxidized over time. Had that classic strong scottish smell to it which I really like. Flavor is rich maltiness with maybe a hint of peated malt, and some crystal malts. Smooth mouthfeel. Almost seemed as though it was stronger than 7% for some reason. CaptainCougar (5517), Rockville, Maryland, USA

Sweet caramely peat malt aroma, with a nice dark fruity balance. Body is rich and sweet with a bready texture and a nice caramel, butterscotch, and cookie dough flavor. Crisp, smooth and full finish hides the alcohol well and rounds out a nice rendition of the style. I cannot take credit for bringing this the the gathering, because I think it was MartinT who brought it. Thanks Martin! OKBeer (1159), Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

Brown ale, creamy but fizzy head, some suspended particles were visible.
Nice good roast, Good mouthfeel. Pleasant to drink. Nice.

Some alcohol also apparent. Opaque eggplant coloured body with very little creamy head that recedes to ring. Sweet and malty flavours with all the fruits promised by the aroma although everything seems muted perhaps by the passage of time. Thick rich mouthfeel. Bottle (enjoyed at Mondial RB Gathering 2004 with CapFlu, CaptainCougar, JerCraigs, MartinT, OKBeer, Radek and Rastacouere). Re-sampled with beerbuzzmontreal, MartinT and Rastacouere with largely the same impressions (8-2-7-2-14=3.3).
