| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 7, 2004 2001 bottle Muddy brown, off-white ring. Aroma is very earthy, peat malt. Creamed chocolate accompanies the coffee. Subtle smoked tones. Brown chocolate palate, peaty, very malty. It could use more fruitiness I found, but this is still pretty well made. I’m not too much of a fan of the buttery/creamy aspects in the aroma. Medium bodied, still fairly carbonated. Nice take on the style from these bottle-conditioning experts. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 21, 2004 Dark walnut color with a moderate dense head og dark beige bubbles. Lots of malt. Aroma akin to having toasted rye bread with a touch of plum butter while sitting by an open campfire. Sweet full roasted malts in the flavor along with dark chocolate, mild peat, dsrk toffee and mild light fruit. Smooth and chewy. A fine american scotch ale. cb (809), Wheat Ridge, Colorado, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 18, 2004 Fairly malty, slightly smoky aroma. A ton of chocolate and dark fruit. Mostly rich semisweet-drenched dark raspberries. Some acidity when colder than desirable. Lasting, sticky head. Very tasty, I’m glad it comes in a 750. wunderbier (1267), Tampere, Finland
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 28, 2004 750 mL bottle, snifter. Caramel, nutty, roasted dark bread malt (H); flowery hops (VL); strong smoke and oak aromas. Tall, tan, creamy head is well lasting and sits on a deep brown-red (nearly black) body. Heavily sweet, lightly acidic flavor becomes a moderately sweet, lightly bitter, lightly acidic, smokey finish. Medium-heavy body, creamy texture, lively carbonation. The bottom line is: smooth, smokey, sweet...very tasty. jeffc666 (1892), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 14, 2004 Murky brown body topped by a pulsating foamy brown head that dissapates quickly. The aroma is sweet malt, caramel and toffee. The flavor is big roasted nutty malts with tons of sweet caramel. Body is full. The finish is very smoky, almost whisky-ish. This is a damn fine beer.
