Commercial Description:
Stoudt's Scotch-style ale features a deep, burnished-copper color, sweet and very full-bodied palate, and well-defined characteristics of roasted and peat-smoked malt. This beer is brewed from the finest European ingredients and uses one of the few ale yeasts that ferments cool (55°) and is cold-conditioned or lagered for six weeks prior to bottle-conditioning.

This bottled brew brought to the Three Floyds Birthday Gathering 12/27/2003 poured a very large sized head of fine to medium sized light brown colored long lasting bubbles that left behind an opaque black body with no visible carbonation and a good lace. The aroma was mild with malt hop and citrus notes while the mouthfeel was smooth thick and even from start to finish. The flavor was smokey with peat dough and malty notes. Very good and oh-so-smooth!

Deep brown hue with large tan head and moderate lacing. Heavy malts, mocha, vanilla, whisky oak, floral hops, and smoky nose. Sweet mocha malt (but not sticky) taste upfront followed by a light fruit and bitter tone. An acidic twang and smoky peat background provide a well rounded complexity. The mouthfeel is creamy and smooth. A very good brew that is within the standards for the genre IMO. Thanks to theDM for the taste.

nice large brown head and deep brown body. sweet berry and chocolate caramel. didn't really remind me of what scotches i've had prior to this. it's unique. good, but perhaps not for me. it tries to be too festive with other complexities i never requested.

This the Stoudts that I have been looking forward to. Aroma is carmel, smoke, and hops. I'm going to guess Fuggles, but I really don't know, they don't have an American aroma or flavor. It is well balance both up front and on the finish. Excellent brew!

I had this one on draft at a local tavern. I was quite pleased with the thick sweet and smokey malt flavor of this scotch ale. Carol did a good job on this one. Next time I'll need a designated driver so I can enjoy several pints!

Big roasted, smokey, peaty beer. Very fresh homebrew taste. Still, I'm missing dark fruit complexity of other scotch ales.

Sweet sticky smokey malt aromas rise up from the murky, deep brown depths of this very opaque and cloudy brew. Same flavors in the thick body along with an ending that alternates between lingering sweetness and dry alcoholic hops. A style that I usually don't enjoy, this was very tasty.

Dark copper color. The peated malt gives this beer a distinctive taste and a desire to retry some other strong Scottish ales that use peat-dried malts. Picked up a leather-like flavor in addition to the smokiness. Dry, roasted malt finish.
