Commercial Description:
Stoudt's Scotch-style ale features a deep, burnished-copper color, sweet and very full-bodied palate, and well-defined characteristics of roasted and peat-smoked malt. This beer is brewed from the finest European ingredients and uses one of the few ale yeasts that ferments cool (55°) and is cold-conditioned or lagered for six weeks prior to bottle-conditioning.

’01 bottle at Richlikebeer’s YEHA ’05 courtesy of Willblake. chestnut color, tan foamy head. mild peaty smoky aroma, flavor is dryish, malty, and a little peaty sweet. kind of a funky aging like I have experienced with the Y2k beer also.

2001 vintage at the NJ, Pocono, Philly YEHa!’05 courtesy of willblake. Clear chestnut body with well-settled sediment and a receding gray-brown head. Open, malty nose with some acceptable oxidation, mild chocolate, and some malt extract elements. Flavor is nutty and mature with caramel, toffee, and subtle peat smoke. Maybe a little peaked but still enjoyable.

’01 Vintage. I’ve got to learn to print better (it took me 3 days to figure out the name of this beer in my notebook). Poured a dark brownish color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, peat, light chocolate and light smoke. Tastes of caramel, light smoke, chocolate and some coffee.

Poured brown with a light tan head. Aroma dominated by sweet caramel. Flavor is balanced between caramel, coffee, and a bit of smoke. Clean and sweet finish. This was good stuff.

Sampled at Rich’s YeHa 05. 2001 bottle courtesy of willblake. Thank you so much. Sweet, roasty, chocolate-like aroma with some mild smoked notes and peat aromas. Very enticing. Moderately transparent garnet-mahogany color with a yellow-tan frothy head. Flavor starts off being peat-like, sweet. Dark chocolate plavors are also in there with a nice roastiness. Extremely smoth, and very tasty. This is a touch thin, otherwise, a great beer.

Luckily, this 750 bottle was filled to almost the very top and the cap held tight for the past 4 years… there was almost no oxidation at all!!
The beer pours a dark amber / deep chestnut brown color and the tan head is tall, resilient and rocky. I could tell by the pour that this bottle was in immaculate condition! The aroma boasts big chocolate malts… tons of toffee and molasses, some coco and hazelnut, date and fig…. It’s marvelous! The flavor backs up the aroma in every sense.. It’s both sweet and nutty, full of dark fruits, somewhat syrupy and smoky in the finish…. This beer is Freaking Outstanding! Stouts nailed Scotch Ale with this recipe… very traditional and almost certainly the best vintage aged beer I have ever opened. It held together marvelously well for a 7%abv beer!

Sample courtesy of MAP. Pours brown with no head. Aroma is all sugary mollasses and caramel. Very carbonated for a scotch ale. Flavor is all caramel up front, turns dry and slightly oxidized through the middle and finish. Decent overall.

2001 vintage thanks to Scott? at HW open house. Dark brown color with a good sized tan head. Very nice aroma of peat malt, molasses and a hint of smoke. Flavor was again peat, smoke, molasses that was somewhat milder than the aroma would lead you to believe, but still very good.
