Clear chestnut body with well-settled sediment and a receding gray-brown head. Open, malty nose with some acceptable oxidation, mild chocolate, and some malt extract elements. Flavor is nutty and mature with caramel, toffee, and subtle peat smoke. Maybe a little peaked but still enjoyable. hopdog (5614), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

I’ve got to learn to print better (it took me 3 days to figure out the name of this beer in my notebook). Poured a dark brownish color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, peat, light chocolate and light smoke. Tastes of caramel, light smoke, chocolate and some coffee. IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA

Sweet, roasty, chocolate-like aroma with some mild smoked notes and peat aromas. Very enticing. Moderately transparent garnet-mahogany color with a yellow-tan frothy head. Flavor starts off being peat-like, sweet. Dark chocolate plavors are also in there with a nice roastiness. Extremely smoth, and very tasty. This is a touch thin, otherwise, a great beer. matta (1139), Tampa, Florida, USA

Luckily, this 750 bottle was filled to almost the very top and the cap held tight for the past 4 years… there was almost no oxidation at all!!
The beer pours a dark amber / deep chestnut brown color and the tan head is tall, resilient and rocky. I could tell by the pour that this bottle was in immaculate condition! The aroma boasts big chocolate malts… tons of toffee and molasses, some coco and hazelnut, date and fig…. It’s marvelous! The flavor backs up the aroma in every sense.. It’s both sweet and nutty, full of dark fruits, somewhat syrupy and smoky in the finish…. This beer is Freaking Outstanding! Stouts nailed
Scotch Ale with this recipe… very traditional and almost certainly the best vintage aged beer I have ever opened. It held together marvelously well for a 7%abv beer! Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 9, 2005 Sample courtesy of MAP. Pours brown with no head. Aroma is all sugary mollasses and caramel. Very carbonated for a scotch ale. Flavor is all caramel up front, turns dry and slightly oxidized through the middle and finish. Decent overall. jimmack (1221), Nutley, New Jersey, USA

Very nice aroma of peat malt, molasses and a hint of smoke. Flavor was again peat, smoke, molasses that was somewhat milder than the aroma would lead you to believe, but still very good.
