Rich, full, sweet aroma, prominent toffee and fruitiness, some red grape and plum to be found, along with hints of roasty malt, bubble gum, raisin, milk chocolate and floral hop. Dark mahogany color, nearing black, with a creamy, nicely lasting tan head. Flavor profile is roasty and lightly tangy to start, becoming fruity and sweet before the delicately smoky, malty, lightly bittering, lightly warming and very long finish. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel, medium-full body. Full of character and well-balanced. Sickboy282 (1101), San Diego, California, USA

Aroma is malt and yeast sweetness with some roasted and caramel feel. Flavor is rather strong malt action, almost on a par with a porter or stout. Regardless, it is a fine beer. Flavor of smoked malt, caramel and alcohol. Medium body, liquorous texture and soft carbonation. It’s good but I don’t feel it’s special or very good, I had higher expectations for this one. The Stoudt’s Scotch pours a dark reddish brown with a large kind of fizzy brown head that retains well. The final pour has a lot of floating yeasties.
Its aroma is chocolate and caramel malt with some fruit (date?) and liquor notes as well as a little smokiness.
The flavor is a lot of malt up front - some sweetness, caramel, chocolate, molasses and roasted malts. There’s also a little fruitiness and smokiness. It has a crisp light bitter finish that balances it nicely. Some alcohol is noticeable. It is medium bodied and has a pretty creamy mouthfeel, a little strong on the carbonation though.
Overall, an excellent malty Scotch Ale. Thanks Probiere!

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 21, 2004 Wicked malty aroma. Caramel, vanilla, light smoke as well. Very thick and inviting nose. Color is a deep dark amber. Mild carbonation, with a tight tan head. Big bold maltiness throught the taste of this beer. Smokiness as well. Vanilla. Definitely a well made wee heavy. Perfect on this unseasonably cool evening.
