Straffe Hendrik Bruges Triple Ale 10/30/09 (bomber. Got to admit, this bottle looks handsome: a Belgian-style corked finish bomber, with a deep forest green label. Pours perfectly gold, medium in carbonation. Aroma is grainy, with strong yeast notes and some like herbal hops. Flavor is hay, grain, light fruit, and spices. Balance is ok, finish is a bit sharp and spicy, but not out of style for a Triple. Overall, this is not a poorly crafted Triple – I would even venture to say it reminded me of a cross between Duvel and Westmalle Triple. That said, I didn’t find a whole lot in this beer to write home about.

Bottle from Ohtsuki. Light amber color with a thick, fine, tall head and lots and lots of bubbles rising. Very fruity aroma with lots of green apples and a touch of honey. Flavor is strong and hoppy, rather sour, with more green apples and some citrus and sweet honey and spices as well. Quite hoppy for a tripel, from start to finish, with a strong metallic taste as well. Interesting and original, though maybe not very well balanced. Rather boozy as well. Body is rather thin and very fizzy. Ok, but not one of the better triples I’ve had.

Bottle pours golden-orange with a white head. Aroma smells of banana, white pepper, yeast, and slightly metallic. Flavor shows the same with additional notes of grass, caramel, orange peel, and a touch of alc. Nothing wrong with this one, I just don’t think that I was in the mood. I’ll have to rerate it at another time.

Orange coloured and unclear. Has a white head, medium lasting. Hoppy aroma, metallic notes. Flavor starts heavy bitter, with a iron-note. Light sweetness. Real nice. Dry texture.

Bottle given to me by Ian at Toronado. Pours a hazy golden amber with white head. Aroma of yeast, banana, dusty malts, and some spice. Flavor is grainy maltiness, artificial banana flavored candy, tangy citrus, and spice. A rather "sharp" flavor for a tripel. Finish is dry with some hop presence. Pretty good, especially since it was free.

Pours golden with a small white head. Aromas of belgiun yeast and bananas. Spicy banana flavor. A little light on the palate. Pretty decent overall.

Tap, 33cl. A beautiful amber coloured beer with a medium white creamy lacing head that lasts. Malty aroma, with some hops and sweetness included. Strong malty taste, light sweet beer, grassy finish of hops. A quite pleasant beer to drink, although certainly not the best of tripels you can find.

Solid golden pour. Aroma is wheat, and spice - kind of peppery, and not necessarily in a positive way. Flavor is similar. There is a little bit of fruit in there, but not much. The finish is a little bit harsh. Not as easy drinking as say, Karmeliet. Not bad though.
