Commercial Description:
Due to its authenticity, Earthmonk received as little sugar as possible during bottle conditioning in order to preserve all original aromas and flavours. This beer comes with little carbonation and a mini head. Is best served at cellar temperature and poured generously, meaning from a hight of approximately 15 to 20 CM, in an upright standing tulip glass. A big bubbled head will quickly make place for the Earthmonk coming alive! Bottle-conditioned in 33cl (5000 btls.) and 75cl (1000 btls.). At Struise, we never retire beers. At ratebeer, Beers are retired when a new batch is not bottled within 12 months. As Earthmonk takes 18 months to age on oak... we have to be patient.

33cl, retired exclusive brew, last tasted at ZBF2007, very complex, cloudy, nearly no head, very good sour brew, original!

Bottle courtesy of Fonefan: Poured a deep cloudy red color ale with a medium foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of oak with some sour cherries and some cloves and some very subtle light black chocolate notes. Taste is also a mix between some black chocolate covered black cherry with some clearly identifiable oak with a sour finish. A lot more complex then most traditional Flemish sours out there. This is definitely a beer I would like to try more often in order to try and decipher all of the characteristics.

Bottle @ the RBESG08 Grand Tasting.
Pours deep brown with a small, film head. Aroma is brilliant - funky, tart, roasted, sour-dough, raisins, vinegar... herbs... lots of things. Medium carbonation, which suits it perfectly. Flavour is super tart, light burning in effect. Pleasantly roasted tones with good oak presence, raisins peeping through again, grapes, overripe apple, cinnamon and other spices. Simply wonderful.

Bottle at the Kulminator in Antwerp (March 2008). Pours brown with a 2 finger tan head. Nose of sour fruits and vinegar. Nice balance between sweet and tart. One of my favorites on me Belgium trip.

Bottled(330ml). -RBESG2008, Grand Tasting.
Dark brown coloured, small tan head, sourish acidic nose. Very sour fruity vinous taste. Also sour cherries and acidic grapes. Overall wickedly sour and excellent brew.

Shady brown color, tan head. Acidic sour scent. Sour metallic taste. Thin mouthfeel, low bitterness. Not my thing at all.

RBESG08 grand tasting.
Man I was happy when I got this one. Poured a really murky brown colour with a small tan head. A funky nose with notes of vinegar and raisins. Lovely sour taste, sour cherries, dark malt, vinegar. Superb interplay of sweet and sour flavors. The best Sour Ale I’ve ever had, by far.

This beer died on me as i got into the glass. Pours dark brown with minimal head. Very sweet. Too sweet for my liking as i would have liked to see more sour to better balance it. Alcohol presence as it warms. Not a bad offering by any means, but not sour enough.
