Commercial Description:
This Belgian Royal Stout was brewed as a tribute to one of America’s best pubs. Jennifer and Chris Lively who run the place may be proud of Ebenezer’s Pub. Not only do they have 35 beers on draught, most of these are hard to find Supreme Belgian Ales. Above that, they have one of the most extensive bottle-conditioned beer lists through different bottling dates we have ever seen. Not only can you drink almost any Belgian beer, the worlds best brewery’s are represented. A lot of the guests talk about the American Kulminator, yet with that difference that the Belgian inspired food, is simply great. Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. Vanilla and cocoa, swimming in a brew that suggested coal to me. Very nice appearance with excellent richness. Bottle shared at RBSG 2009 grand tasting.

Poured black with a fizzy tan head. Nose is roasted grains, toast, tobacco, some cherry. Flavor is loads of dark fruit, roasted malt, some smokiness and some earthy qualities. Body was thin but smooth.

On tap at Novare Res. Pours a dark black with a tan head. Hints of tobacco, tar, and spices in the nose. I do get a little hop aroma in there too...but it’s very subtle. Flavors are chocolatey goodness, coffee and dark fruit. Seriously 13%? Hard to believe its smooth as silk. Glad to be in Maine, in the center of where all this great Belgian invasion is going down!

Bottle, thanks to TampaBrew for sharing! Poured black with reddish highlights and a dense, creamy brown head. Aroma is roasted malt with notes of chocolate, currant, tobacco, and anise. Body is suprisingly thin with soft carbonation and a smooth mouth feel. Flavor is hard roasted malt with hints of chocolate, caramel and dark fruit. It’s pretty sweet with a spicy overtone. Finish is roasted with warming alcohol.

12 oz bottle: black with hints of red beneath a tan head. tremendous nose of a lot of belgian esters and some dark malts and a tinge of alcohol. thick moutthfeel. first taste is very fruity due to the esters, a lot of low crystal sweetness followed by a touch of roasty malt, that comes through as the beer warms. alcohol adds depth only and is perfectly fermented, this is amazingly 13%, wouldn’t have guessed it was even 7%. a somewhat sour and dry finish ends this extraordinary brew. only critique is maybe a little more roast to fit the style a bit more, but the beer is fermented perfectly and the yeast provides exemplary flavor
