Commercial Description:
This Belgian Royal Stout was brewed as a tribute to one of America’s best pubs. Jennifer and Chris Lively who run the place may be proud of Ebenezer’s Pub. Not only do they have 35 beers on draught, most of these are hard to find Supreme Belgian Ales. Above that, they have one of the most extensive bottle-conditioned beer lists through different bottling dates we have ever seen. Not only can you drink almost any Belgian beer, the worlds best brewery’s are represented. A lot of the guests talk about the American Kulminator, yet with that difference that the Belgian inspired food, is simply great. Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. Bottle. Big thanks to Matt! Poured a nice dark body with an aroma of chocolate, malt and yeast. Flavor was very earthy with light cocoa hops and yeast. Smooth.

Botle shared by WeeHeavySD at AleSmiths tasting bar. Thanks Jon: Black color is topped with a medium brown head. Aroma is dark chocolate, black cherry and a hint of alcohol. Flavor starts dark chocolate followed by a light sourness, dark fruit, a touch of alcohol with hint of smoke and a lingering coffee/licorice bitter finish with a hint of tobacco. Full body is rich and creamy with moderate carbonation.

bottle. pours an average black with a huge rocky tan head. Deep plums, candy sugar and a touch of hops on the aroma. Medium body, very smooth throughout... sweet up front with dark fruits such as raisins and plums coming forward with some chocolate and coffee on the sides. Nice lingering finish with some bitterness and bigger malts. There is a red wine quality to the body, somewhat tart / sour, but really carrying the grape / dark fruit notes forward. The fruit really smacks you up front on the finish, while the back carries the deeper chocolate / mocha malts. Quite tasty indeed.... but too expensive. A very unique twist on the Imperial Stout... glad I’ve got another bottle aging.

Bottle @ Delirium. Pours black with a good amount of tan head. Aroma full of roasted malts and plums, with a bit of alcohol as well. Taste includes more dark fruits and some chocolate. Very smooth on the palate. Even Jess liked this one, and she’s very much not into imperial stouts. Finish is full of coffee and lingers well. I say this one is worthy of the hype. Well done.

Pour was expectedly dark with a one to two finger tall brown head. Streaks of lacing. The aroma was soft, sweet chocolate that is quickly overrun by darker fruits, sugar and light Belgian yeast. The flavor also transitions from what tasted like a foreign stout into a Belgian ale by midpalate. The mouthfeel is on the thin side for what it is an the alcohol was expertly hidden. Unique. Pricey.

Amazing beer. Dark chocolate with mild coffee undertones and vanilla mixed. Average rocky light brown head. Dark black color. Extremely full bodied with a creamy texture and soft carbonation. Roasted malts are well balanced. Unbelievable that this beer is a 26 proof beer. Overpriced at around $10 a 11.2 oz bottle. Kind of a rip off. Go with Bell’s expedition stout for a much better value for your money.

11.2oz bottle - pours a totally opaque black color with medium sized dark tan head with nice lacing. Aroma has tart cherries, vanilla, oak, subtle roasted malts, faint creamy coffee. Flavor has lots of roasted malts, dark coffee, black pepper, background of herbal hops, with a pretty firm bitterness in the finish. Overall good, but not quite as good as I was expecting given the hype and the price.
