Commercial Description:
This Belgian Royal Stout was brewed as a tribute to one of America’s best pubs. Jennifer and Chris Lively who run the place may be proud of Ebenezer’s Pub. Not only do they have 35 beers on draught, most of these are hard to find Supreme Belgian Ales. Above that, they have one of the most extensive bottle-conditioned beer lists through different bottling dates we have ever seen. Not only can you drink almost any Belgian beer, the worlds best brewery’s are represented. A lot of the guests talk about the American Kulminator, yet with that difference that the Belgian inspired food, is simply great. Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. 0.33l - Impenetrable pitch black liquid. Small dark tan head. Noticeable sourness on nose, evident right from pour. Vague sour fruit (raspberry) nose and some whiskey notes. Sourness on first sip which snaps to a deep smoky roasted malt. Ingenious.

11.2oz bottle from CBX. pours a beautiful onyx black with hints of ruby and a half inch, dark tan head and great lacing. aroma is outstanding with notes of dark chocolate, licorice, dark roasted malt, mild bitter coffee, black cherry, and a touch of vinous fruit and plum. flavor is fantastic with big bitter chocolate, vinous fruit, herbal hops, and big malts up front backed by flavors of roasted nuts, dried cherry, and burnt coffee with a lingering, bitter finish. palate is smooth and full bodied with solid carbonation and not a hint of the 13%. overall, a world class imperial stout.

Bottle pours dark and inky, with a small tan head that quickly falls into some sheet lacing. Aroma has Vienna coffee, dark chocolate, cherries, fusel alcohol, and candi sugar. Body is medium full with subdued carbonation. Taste is complex. Nutty dark chocolate, cocoa powder, dark dried fruits, roasty malt bitterness, cherries, and some serious herbal hops. Seems to have elements of a Belgian tripel and IPA hiding underneath this big stout. An interesting experience to be sure.

Bottle. Black with a fairly thick golden brown, leaves nice lacing. Acidic coffee and chocolate with light cherry notes in the aroma. Texture is just amazing, creamy-thick but silky. Flavor is complex- chocolate and cherries with coffee, oats, and a strong roastiness in wonderful balance. Sweet but balanced by a wonderful chocolate acidity. Very well done, an absolute treat.

Bottle. Black and exploded out of the bottle. Smooth and mellow with chocolate and liquorice undertones. Crisp and frighteningly easy to drink. Top class.

(Draught at Den Tatoverede Enke, Copenhagen, 23 May 2009) Very dark brown, almost black, with a brief brown head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of liquorice, dark chocolate and cocoa. Slightly vinous. Malty, roasted taste with liquorice, cocoa, espresso, tobacco and even more liquorice in a long, vinous and warming finish. Intense flavours with the liquorice taking over. Full body, oily texture. Fairly sweet. Very nice slow sipping beer. Stunning stuff.
