Commercial Description:
This Belgian Royal Stout was brewed as a tribute to one of America’s best pubs. Jennifer and Chris Lively who run the place may be proud of Ebenezer’s Pub. Not only do they have 35 beers on draught, most of these are hard to find Supreme Belgian Ales. Above that, they have one of the most extensive bottle-conditioned beer lists through different bottling dates we have ever seen. Not only can you drink almost any Belgian beer, the worlds best brewery’s are represented. A lot of the guests talk about the American Kulminator, yet with that difference that the Belgian inspired food, is simply great. Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. bottle at Chez Moeder Lambic - Pours black with a big brown head and some lacing. It initially smells of roast malt and dark chocolate. The flavor is of sweet dark chocolate and roast malt with a touch of vanilla. It’s lightly carbonated and has a big, full body. This beer is huge, complex, immensely flavorful, and overall extremely well done. Fantastic.

Absolutely black as anything I have ever seen with a thick mocha colored head. Smells of sweet chocolate cake donuts with some earthy mushroom hints. There is also some walnut, but the sweet cocoa blows everything else away. The taste is burnt coffee with loads of dark chocolate and plums. There is also some roasted walnut in the finish. I hate to admit that I read it, but after I read car tire, that smell would not go away for me. An overwhelming experience at first, I get what they are doing with this one. Large and heavily roasted, it has the typical Imperial Stout character, but done in an over the top manner. Well made, but not extraordinary. The finish is a little harsh, with the roast and the alcohol.

Pleased to have finally picked one of these up at $10/bottle. First thing you notice while pouring this black drink is the large size of voids in the foam, kind of like swiss cheese. The aroma was lighter than expected. The flavor had a lot of bitter and sour after a quick sweetness. Sour coffee grounds, a bit flat to me, kind of like pouring alcohol into your oatmeal and sprinkling on burnt malt and cocoa. Maybe a HQ drink, but doesn’t grab me.

A dense, richly smooth impy which nods to the assertive sour-complex-fruity-mineral character of a strong Belgian like Westmalle dubbel. A very integrated sour/bitter/sweet/hoppy interplay makes for very solid & satisfying drinking, so this is a quite consistent and gratifying experience. Unusually viscous pour and incredibly tall but dense crema-colored head. Smoothie-like! Fairly dark browny-black coat with cognac highlights. Sticky, leaves a good trace of color! So many aromas that transform into flavors - fruits of grape and plum, dry fruit and spice, toffee, fresh roast bean, grass and flowers, candi, After aromas are poignantly enticing, and more-ish. Prefer this kind of flavor density to the subtler Pannepot GR. * 33cl Bottle worth the $10.95 from Premier Gourmet. *

Bottle. Pours a deep black, very attractive tan head. Sweet touches of chocolate, malt and roast notes dominate the aroma. Flavor profile is bakers chocolate, roasted malt, very subtle touches of vanilla and anise in the background. Finish is smooth and enjoyable.

On tap at Den Tatoverede Enke. Pours pitch black with a foamy long lasting light brown head. The aroma is quite vague but with notes of sweet malt, raisins, figs and very weak notes of roasted malt and liquorice. Flavour is more intense and mellow with a nice sweetness to it and notes of roasted malt, chocolate and liquorice. It has a strong dark and bitter aftertaste. Makes me think of a blend between an abt. and and impy stout.

12oz bottle. Pours deep brown almost black with a 2 finger thick chocolate head, some spotty lacing was left on the glass. Nice chocolate and toffee nose with a light hop presence up front. Flavors of mostly dark roasted malts, cocoa and a little boozy on the finish.

Bottle from Premier. Black body with a tan head. Nose is plastic, cocoa krispies, figs, tobacco, grain alcohol. Flavor is alcohol, roasty malt, fruits - apple, unripe strawberry. The same astringent burnt malt comes out in the finish w. some cocoa. Overly dry as a result of the alcohol. As it warms some vanilla comes out in the nose with a LOT more booze. The flavor reveals more booze/grain alcohol, cocoa. Like Black Hole, wayyyyy overdone.
