Smells of bitter chocolate with roasty husk and smoked toffee tones, light grassyness. Soft carbonation
In the mouth the hopping bitterness is subdued but it is there and lingers on and mixes well with warming alcohol which both sit below the thick and almost chewy malts....then this rum and coke citrus complexity steps builds to the rich wet, complex exiler finish.
I’ve tasted imperials similar to this but I’ve never tasted better. moejuck (1165), Ohio, USA

Thanks Mike for breaking this out for me. Black body with a medium tan head. Alcohol is up front in the nose with some roasted coffee notes. The mouthfeel is nice, but the carbonation is a bit too high for my liking. The flavor follows the nose with some hints of bitter chocolate. jimbowood (953), Athens, Georgia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | May 1, 2009 Bottle. Wow, this doesn’t taste like a 13% brew. Dangerous. I could drink six of these. Very smooth and creamy. Well balanced. Not overpowering in the least. jgb9348 (2496), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 1, 2009 Deep dark brown coloured body, with a muddy glow and a large dense, perfectly shaped brown head. Aroma of potent pit fruits, roasted malt, cherries, coffee and a bit of nuts - very nice and potent. Full-bodied; Strong roasted malt taste up front with some cognac, oak, vanilla tucked in with pit fruits, yeast and some odd nuts - nice and complex. Aftertaste shows a lot of sweetness with a touch of alcohol and a lot of well-rounded tastes. Overall, a nice and interesting beer - a lot of carbonation with a lot of flavours. Good to try and surprising for just an odd pickup that I saw while away! I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Sherbrooke Liquors in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 27-December-2008, sampled at home in Washington on 30-April-2009. The complexities really do work out incredibly. With the aroma, roasted black and caramel malts galore, also mocha, medium fruits, and sourness throughout that is great, with notes of sour berries and melons. Very unique smelling. Visually, it has a good creamy, coffee cream head, good retention and lacing, a darker, thicker but not motor oil-like body, and milk mocha in color. First off about the taste of this one, it has a great full flavored, medium-thick body as flavor gets everywhere, making it hard to think about anything but this beer while drinking it. Wonderful balance too with all of the complexities and uniqueness being displayed here. It starts off with roasty, creamy mocha, a nutty amaretto, black malts, and caramel cookie malt, but then sour Belgian aspects of the beer come out and Black Albert starts to separate itself from other members of this style. Green apples, dark, sweet berries, with a twinge of acidity. The finish continues to build on everything to make a nice well balanced climax. Nothing is overly sweet or heavy about this one either. Really, just an exceptional, unique, and complex brew that I am very happy to have tried. Top notch. Tweety (343), Vancouver, Washington, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 26, 2009 Thanks to whoever gave me a pour of this at DLD. I unfortunately was really disappointed here, the flavor was thin, almost watery, none of the thick fullness I expected. I’ll chalk it up to a bad bottle, and seek it out to try again. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Apr 26, 2009 Bottled sample thanks to Weine(?) or maybe andersand or Todeon. Pours a black color with a nice white head. Aroma is very special for an imperial stout with lots of fruitiness (dried fruits), plums and some nice roasted malt/chocolate. Flavour is rather vinous with lots of chocolate and dried fruits (plums, raisins I would say). Quite malty and sweet, with a very full body and smooth mouthfeel. Extremely filling. After waiting for several minutes I finally took a taste of this hyped beer. The quadruple comes out at first then it finishes like everyone else says a roasty stout. Very interesting beer.
The alcohol is apparent on the nose but after the initial taste it almost completely disappears.
Although this is a unique beer (with an identity crisis as one put it) I personally was felt let down a bit.
This is a nice beer and you should at least try it.
