Commercial Description:
This Belgian Royal Stout was brewed as a tribute to one of America’s best pubs. Jennifer and Chris Lively who run the place may be proud of Ebenezer’s Pub. Not only do they have 35 beers on draught, most of these are hard to find Supreme Belgian Ales. Above that, they have one of the most extensive bottle-conditioned beer lists through different bottling dates we have ever seen. Not only can you drink almost any Belgian beer, the worlds best brewery’s are represented. A lot of the guests talk about the American Kulminator, yet with that difference that the Belgian inspired food, is simply great. Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. 330cL bottle from mcbackus! Nose is dark bitter chocolate, toasty yeast, and a little toffee and prunes. Black with a medium cinnamon head. Flavor is chocolate covered prunes with some bitterness added like an impy stout with some barleywine bitterness and fruitiness.

Bottle from Belmont Party. Poured a clear dark brown color with a large frothy brown head that lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted chocolate, caramel and alcohol aroma. Heavy bittersweet roasted malty flavor with a heavy bittersweet and small alcohol bite finish of long duration. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a standout beer.

tall burnt sienna colored thick creamy head, body is the blackest brown mahogany and light mahogany at edges. aroma is deep roasted malt, coffee, high cacao chocolate, and dried black mission figs. a little chocolate liquer too. flavor starts a little dry, oaky, and a bit yeasty/astringent, gets bready and deep roasted malt with some fresh roasted coffee bean. bitterness of baking chocolate, tart dark dried fruits, and faint malt sweetness comes and goes quickly, then a pleasant ginny heat flies by. a little of the acidity and smoky bitterness in the finish. aftertaste is bitter licorice. very well done, quite a journey!

Pours nearly black with ruby red observable in direct light. Nose is incredible with Black Forest Cake - chocolate, dark fruits, and breadiness. Palate offers a nice correspondence with the nose - chocolate, dark fruit, bready, and some light vinegar/sourness. Finish is slightly chalky, in a good way.

This Imperial Stout pours an inky black color with a very thick and foamy light brown head that diminishes slowly. Swiss cheese lacing that sticks to the glass. Potent aroma of dark chocolate, coffee and raisins. Woody notes as well. Rich body with flavors of mocha, dark fruits and oak. Underlying caramel sweetness balanced by a light alcohol burn. The finish is roasted malt with a licorice aftertaste. Aside from some mild acidity afterward there is little to dislilke about this beer. Very good from start to finish.

Pours black with a dark brown head. The aroma was average with sweet notes and and the alcohol smell is not what you would expect for a beer with 13% alc. I was impressed primarily with the drinkability of the beer. It does a great job hiding the alcohol behind sweet and smokey flavors in the beer.

Bottle shared by Crosling. Poured a deep brown/black color with a thick, creamy tan head that slowly receded to a thick layer and left some spotty lacing. Aroma is dominated by fruit, mainly sweet berry (raspberry, blackberry) and actually borders on koolaid mix sweetness. There is also some chocolate in the nose and a bit of alcohol. Smooth, moderately sweet entry with some moderate fruitiness (berry, plum, and red apple) lead into some dry dark chocolate and a moderate chalkiness paired with some faint hop bitterness that lingers in the finish. Low carbonation and moderate mouthfeel. I don’t know, at times this seems more like drinking a fruit beer infused with chocolate rather than an imperial stout. The flavor, while not offensive, really isn’t what I think of when I think imperial stout, or even stout. I understand that Belgian style stouts typically afford fruity flavors and aromas due to the yeast, but this was a bit overbearing. I have heard the consistency of bottles isn’t great, so perhaps this was off, but it’s doubtful I will be trying it again at $11 a pop.
