Apr 15, 2009 Rótulo diferente, muito bonito. Coloração preta, turva, com espuma bege densa, cremosa, volumosa, deixando marcas nas laterais e uma generosa camada perene. Presença evidente de malte torrado e café, sendo seca e com amargor acentuado. Sugestão de ameixas pretas. Leve adocicado. Complexa. Encorpada (muito encorpada!). O álcool encontra-se muito bem disfarçado no conjunto. O aroma se desprende facilmente, exalando fortes notas de torrefação. Destaque para o amargor, bem acentuado, em razão de generosa presença de lúpulo. Ótimo conjunto, mas acredito que tenha faltado um melhor balanceamento. Para mim, essa cerveja ficou forte demais, não em razão do álcool, mas por ter ficado muito encorpada, tirando um pouco de sua drinkability.

Apr 15, 2009 Oh good god yes. This was wonderful. First aroma was straight black coffee at 5am, with a good amount of head for an Impy and carbonation to go with it. Pour looks good, but not chunky like some other big imperial stouts. Huge rich taste of coffee beans, massive chocolate everywhere and some hidden cherry and vanilla flavors. Hops that i can almost pick out underneath the huge malt bill. A slight burn in the aftertaste, which i cant tell if its the alcohol telling me its there, or the burning coffee. Does not taste like a 13%-er, maybe an 8 or so, all the alcohol is well hidden under the mountain of flavor. I wish i could pick this apart more, but god himself couldn’t tell you all the flavors in this. Syrupy on the mouth and clings to the glass just a little bit. The only thing lacking is the palate really, but its almost lacking in a good way because of the ease you can drink this. A great beer that doesn’t need any mellowing. Awesome.

Apr 14, 2009 Bottle from a secret admirer whom has pissed off my wife. Pours onyx with 3-finger dark brown head. Nose is dark malt, chocoff, hops, black berry, licorice. Tastes hoppy and richly dark malty up front, with figgy and cherry fruit at mid-point, followed by cacao, chocolate syrup, and a rich, complex palate that throws a lot at you and demands that you sort it out, although if you were drunk it would just demand that you chug it then go vomit at the nearest hole in the ground because you couldn’t deal with the massive 13% ABV, or were using the beer as an excuse to cover up your manly shortcomings. Novices need not apply (and please keep cheapdark away from this one!!!), but true beer connoisseurs will love every sip of this very well made beer, and yet another testament from Struise as to what human beings can make when given the right skill sets. BRAVO!!!

Apr 14, 2009 Pours a black color with a brown head. Strong roasted malt aroma with chocolate, coffee, caramel, and slight hop aroma. Thick on the palate with roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, caramel, and molasses. Slightly bitter finish with not much alcohol coming out especially for 13%.

Apr 14, 2009 I was about to order this online, but thanks to a fellow Georgian, the word is out, this beer is at Greens now! Somewhat of a viscous-like pour. Nice chocolate head that fades away to a very thin chocolate head covering the top of the beer. Nice black opaque appearance. A very fine looking stout indeed. A very nice sharp and pungent roast aroma, with some coffee, but not so much coffee as there is roast. Wow, this beer has an awesome nuanced flavor. Starts out very roasty and ash-like then a surprisingly sweet flavor hits your tongue. I thought the sweet flavor was the aftertaste and wasn’t satisfied, but then the roast came back with some kick to it. Very nice flavor indeed. That sweet flavor leaves an interesting taste in your mouth, but that final roast taste is just simply amazing; it is deep, dark, and very nice. Chocolate aroma begins to come out more as the beer warms. Extremely silky palate. Just a very interesting and nice imperial stout.

Apr 13, 2009 brought by stumac to feces fest, also had at the BA stout tasting .. . Dark as night, with tar,chocolate,and shoe polish in the nose .. . chewy and oily, easy to drink, but beware of the sneaky 13% .. . a class act .. . i don’t give a crap about woodstock ..

Apr 12, 2009 Pours black, big tan head with some lacing and moderate retention. Fennell, bitter chocolate, dark fruit, and roast on the nose; flavour develops chocolate and vanilla notes with a long, dry, slightly burnt finish. Alcohol is well-hidden. Rich, creamy mouthfeel, not too much carbo.

Apr 12, 2009 Obtained from Bottleworks in Seattle - lucky us! Pours a pitch black with a thin off-white head with minimal foam. Unusual sweet aroma, figs & dark fruit, licorice root and and fennel. More fennel in the flavour, sweet rich and complex malt, lingering herbal hop finish. Creamy, moderately thick body. So complex and tasty - I don’t really think of stout, but rather Belgian strong ale. Yum!
