Commercial Description:
This Belgian Royal Stout was brewed as a tribute to one of America’s best pubs. Jennifer and Chris Lively who run the place may be proud of Ebenezer’s Pub. Not only do they have 35 beers on draught, most of these are hard to find Supreme Belgian Ales. Above that, they have one of the most extensive bottle-conditioned beer lists through different bottling dates we have ever seen. Not only can you drink almost any Belgian beer, the worlds best brewery’s are represented. A lot of the guests talk about the American Kulminator, yet with that difference that the Belgian inspired food, is simply great. Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. pitch black with sediment under a small creamy brown head. not the biggest stout aroma i’ve smelled but some notes of vanilla and chocolate covered pineapple with maybe a little sourness. flavors has lots of chocolate notes and coffee. finish has touches of the pineapple again. hints of sour. palate is dry and chalky and full bodied. absolutely no sign of the 13%. smooth with an interesting sour touch.

Very dark brown but light does come through. It starts out with a slight vanilla aroma. As it warms up to room temp., some cocoa kicks in, but the bitternes is not very present. I have had two Ølfabrikken Porter today, and compared to that there is no bitternes at all. of course the bitternes is there in the taste, some coffee and chocolate, but still it is very subtle. And where is the alcohol? How can you hide 13% like this? And then the creaminess and the very very loooong aftertaste that is a sign of quality.

11.2 fl oz bottle. Lot B, 6, BB stamped on the label. Courtesy of the one and only Suttree. Pour murky black brown with a dense two inch khaki tan head. Head is very lasting. Some splotchy lacing. Pretty in the glass. Aroma of roasted coffee, sweet grassy hay, more maltiness. Taste is roasty malt, mild sugar sweetness, grassy hay pine hops, and a decent blast of booze in the finish. Nicely melded and integrated. Palate is slick syrupy medium, coats the mouth thoroughly, with a long bitter long hot finish. Overall, nice one, thanks Phil.

Pours cloudy dark dark brown with brown head (and some clumps of sediment that slipped out). Aroma is a bit of coffee with a lot of sour funkiness and a hint typical quad dried fruitiness- figs, prunes. Alcohol comes through as it warms. Taste is roasted malt early, then sour coffee flavor. Finish is funky with coffee, mild yeast and black pepper. Alcohol is present in finish. Nice beer, drinks a little easier than 13%, but still a sipper for me.

Deep black pour, small tan head. Aroma is deep and almost fruity, mostly roasted malt but with a belgian touch. Flavor is pretty sweet and sugary with lots of mild coffee upfront and a caramel sweetness that’s pretty big in the finish. Mouthfeel is thick with a lot of carbonation and a cloying sweet finish. Some smoke comes out afterwards to cut through the sweetness. Hop bitterness is there but does not affect the flavor at all, but the sweetness is a little too much. Overall a pretty good beer.

330ml Bottle - Black in colour, with a foamy tan head. Chocolate, roasted malt and coffee in the aroma with a hint of dried fruit. Rich and mildly fruity taste, with plain chocolate, dried fruit, coffee and some slightly soapy and hoppy hints.

Bottle from Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, NY: Nearly black with a dense khaki colored head. Aromas of licorice, roasted barley and tobacco. Lots of dark fruit flavors (cherries and plum). Dark roast coffee and notes of bitter dark chocolate, and a tartness that becomes a bit overbearing by the end of the glass. I liked alot of the initial flavors of this beer, but the dry roastiness and tartness became a bit much for my tastes.

Bottle. Got out of the shower and poured this one after a Stone IRS. Pours black with a thick peach-tan head. Initial aroma is smoky and slightly sour- lots of floral hops. As it warms, the roasty coffee notes start to show up. Taste starts hoppy and morphs into bitter coffee. Interesting citrus kick- more orange than grapefruit. Some chocolate too. Very nice. The bottle says to enjoy it while listening to La Brabançonne, so I found it on youtube and did just that- regular and dixieland version. I recommend the dixieland.
