Commercial Description:
This Belgian Royal Stout was brewed as a tribute to one of America’s best pubs. Jennifer and Chris Lively who run the place may be proud of Ebenezer’s Pub. Not only do they have 35 beers on draught, most of these are hard to find Supreme Belgian Ales. Above that, they have one of the most extensive bottle-conditioned beer lists through different bottling dates we have ever seen. Not only can you drink almost any Belgian beer, the worlds best brewery’s are represented. A lot of the guests talk about the American Kulminator, yet with that difference that the Belgian inspired food, is simply great. Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. One of my favourites. This Imperial Stout is really a great and complex beer, but absolutely balanced. The best part of it i think is the Aroma ...

Bottle: Poured a deep black color with a tan head. Aroma is sweet with chocolate and coffee. Taste is that of a rugged coffee mixed with dark bakers chocolate. The finish is dry with a fruitness left to the taste buds.

This is probalby one of the best imperial stouts I have ever had. This beer is bery complex. The finish hops are the best feature. The tastes stays with you. The dark smooth stout almost seems like a dessert with a crisp sweetness and coffee. Bitter and dry would be the best description. I was blown away with this stout.

Black body; medium tan head. Sweet chocolate mousse aroma, the same as in Pannepot, which I suppose shouldn’t be surprising. More of a roast character however. Some fruity strawberry yogurt notes as well. The flavor is a very intriguing combination of those parts found in the aroma, strawberry yogurt, light roast, strong suggestions of Pannepot. This is quite well made of course, and I have to say I’ve never had an imperial stout so fruity as this is. It starts to make sense now that I read the label description. Self described as falling within a new style, Belgian Royal Stout, it really is very Belgian with a lot of the Struise house character. It’s all great, but what I especially like is the long aftertaste, roast and fruit.

Pours thick and black. Aroma of chocolate and rasberry. Flavor is huge on the rasberry, choclate, vanilla, sweet malt, other dark fruits and some coffee. Complex flavor, fantastic aroma. Beautiful!

11.2 fl oz bottle from Bieropholie, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. Gushed a bit.

App.: Deep brown-black with a large, rocky mocha froth. Aroma: Huge and thick, very heavy, tons of inky black molasses and licorice, very deep, thick black coffee, very dark chocolate, pleasant dark dried fruits, some toasted coconut and vanilla notes, slightly woody and vinous, a touch smoky, superbly huge and complex. Palate: Medium-full body, very soft but present effervescence Flav.: Quite grapey and fruity, tons of inly, thick black strap molasses and licorice, lots of black coffee, fruity black coffee, only a hint of alcohol, notes of rum and really good, dark Christmas cake with a bit of ginger spiciness; very sweet with nice bitterness, a lot of mouth-coating malt, a little fruit and some warming alcohol.

An absolutely excellent Impy Stout. A masterful blend of over-the-top American brewing with subtle, complex, understated Belgian influence.

Sample from bottle. Black with thick small head. Dark fruits, coffee, caramel, cherries, chokolate, yes the aroma was great. Full body and a nice balance. Alcohol was well hidden. Not bad at all.

Cute little bitty bottle from Jimbowood. Shared this one with a bunch of people, and sadly, no one cared for it. I will say this, it hides the 13% alcohol marvelously. I could swear this was 6 or 7%. Somewhat watery, with lots of chocolate on the tounge and this annoying sourness at the end. It didn’t taste like "complex fruits" to me, it tasted like rotten berries. Perhaps I got a bad bottle, but this one I had didn’t really appeal to me.
