Geniales Bier! Dickinsonbeer (3449), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA

Pours a deep dark ruby almost black with a nice lasting sticky head and good lacing. Aroma on this batch is slightly skewed a bit more to the dark fruity side whereas some bottles I have had are more roasty chocolate and thinner overall- the dark fruity more full bodied batch is quite a bit better- light dark chocolates with just a hint of roast as it warms, nice Belgian yeast character and tons of big fruity and sweet malts, toffee, molasses, chocolate covered almonds, raisin, plum, and apricot. Good big malt flavor- more dried fruits, Belgian light yeasty spiciness, dark chocolate, honey and maple syrup , some hints of tar and anise. Big smooth palate and a great lasting finish. watson1977 (265), , Pennsylvania, USA

Pitch black beer with a medium-sized beige head tha is creamy and lasting. The aroma has floral hops, dried fruits and licorice. The flavor is very malty, dark, medium roasted and sweetish. Some candy sugar too. Drier and a bit ashy in the finish with medium bitterness. The palate is almst full bodied, soft and bitter in the finish. Very well balanced and drinkable sout. Toasty, berryish, chocolatey, medicinal, grassy and appley aroma with hint of solvent. Sweetish, vinous, nutty, berryish, medicinal and chocolatey flavor with hint of solvent. Very smooth and drinkable for 13 ABV. Complex with good vinous and nutty character.
Rating of the 0.33 l bottle (vintage 2007) on June 2009: Black with creamy tan head. Tart, vinous, berryish, chocolatey and perfumed aroma with licorice and dark sugar. Firm vinous, licoricey, roasty and medicinal flavor with dark fruits and hint of metal. The coffee-chocolate-charcoal roastiness is more upfront than in the draught version. 7-4-7-4-15=3.7. I prefer the fresh draught version. jbrus (4863), Delft, Netherlands

Very strong aroma of chocolate, mocha and coffee with black currant. Thick, pitch black, large brown firm head, good lace. Sweet, bitter, sugary start, loads of dark malts, licorice, chocolate, fruity (black currant mainly), cola finish. Very full, sparkling, warming. Great stuff. At least I thought so far. But halfway the glass I found it to be too sugary, lacking some complexity and maltiness, especially the roasted/bitter touch. Still a nice beer. Boutip (2351), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 1, 2009 Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a huge deep brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of deep dry black chocolate with an intense hoppy dry finish. Taste is also a very nice mix between some deep dry chocolate malt with some dry hops and a dry roasted malt and coffee finish. Full body with great carbonation and no alcohol was apparent. Very complex and not totally American in it approach to the style. A more creamy body would render this even better in my opinion.
