Commercial Description:
This Belgian Royal Stout was brewed as a tribute to one of America’s best pubs. Jennifer and Chris Lively who run the place may be proud of Ebenezer’s Pub. Not only do they have 35 beers on draught, most of these are hard to find Supreme Belgian Ales. Above that, they have one of the most extensive bottle-conditioned beer lists through different bottling dates we have ever seen. Not only can you drink almost any Belgian beer, the worlds best brewery’s are represented. A lot of the guests talk about the American Kulminator, yet with that difference that the Belgian inspired food, is simply great. Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. Bottle thanks to dchmela. Pours with a thick, creamy brown head and a very dark brown body. Lace and legs left on the glass. Aroma of alcohol, grass, candi sugar, chocolate, cocoa, lactose, bakery, and Belgian yeast. Taste is meaty, unami, chocolate, wood, smoke, nutty with an ultra long duration, vinous finish. Silky, creamy mouthfeel, great alcohol flavor and presence.

Bottle from Cracked Kettle. Black colour with a beige head. Aroma of liquorice, some coffee, roasted malts, brown sugar, hops. Flavour is sweet, roasted malts and coffee, some chocolate and liquorice. Nice bitter finish with a lingering coffee flavour, which comes out more when the beer warms up. Medium to fullbodied, good carbonation. Very good beer, but a bit too smooth, it lacks a bit of edge imo. And is this really 13%?!

Saved this one for my 100th rating! Pours thick black and opaque with a thick mocha coloured head. Aroma is huge and complex. Candied lemon, coffee, chocolate, plums, strawberries, and cherries. Tastes initially sweet and then changes with every second it’s in your mouth. Plums, cherries, strawberries, dried apricots, caramel, anise, coffee, a huge wave of chocolate on the finish. This is a really good beer. Smooth, not very bitter, I just want to drink this all day.

Bottle thanks to Bman1113VR. Pours an opaque black color with a relatively small sized light brown head that quickly changes into an oil slick top. Little bit of lacing. Nose is roasted coffee and dark chocolate, some fruit like wildness that is reminiscent of wild cherries or maybe red wine. Taste is chocolate covered caramel turtles with pecans. Finish comes off kind of salty. Thick and silky mouthfeel. Long finish. Nice.

On tap at Belmont Station. I had a chance to try this beer previously, but this was the first time on draught. Very dark brown pour, almost black, with a tan head. Roasty chocolate in the nose, soft licorice note. Pretty boozy at first. Overall it’s a decent imperial stout/belgian hybrid thingy, just ok up front, a touch sweet and cloying. I was really impressed with the finish, very smooth with a long drawn out chocolate finish and aftertaste. Enjoyable creation overall, but the booziness needs to soften as well as the price.
