Commercial Description:
This Belgian Royal Stout was brewed as a tribute to one of America’s best pubs. Jennifer and Chris Lively who run the place may be proud of Ebenezer’s Pub. Not only do they have 35 beers on draught, most of these are hard to find Supreme Belgian Ales. Above that, they have one of the most extensive bottle-conditioned beer lists through different bottling dates we have ever seen. Not only can you drink almost any Belgian beer, the worlds best brewery’s are represented. A lot of the guests talk about the American Kulminator, yet with that difference that the Belgian inspired food, is simply great. Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. Bottle shared by Shyam at the 09er. Re-rated after buying a bottle of my own at AJs. Pours jet black with a lasting reddish-brown head that leaves small traces of lacing. Looks regal, for sure. Smells and tastes of red wine, hops, cherries, bakers cocoa, and faint cinnamon. Well spiced and balanced. A great hybrid of belgian and stout styles.

Bottle shared by Shyam at the 09er. Thanks very much! Nice clean obsidian texture and appearance with a better head than, say, BA Speed. So very smooth with a fresh and sweet quality about it - very Belgian, but not like Buffalo, and hence Royal. Fig, date, chocolate, only the very sweetest coffee. Highly vaporous. Beautiful.

12 oz draft poured on tap at Binny’s South Loop (Chicago, IL) in a very nice tulip glass. Pours a pitch black pour, maybe some brown around the edges with a coca-cola head that is moderate and laces. Aromas heavy on roasted malt and chocolate initially. Light cinnamon and coffee notes as well. Initial is heavy on the roasted malt up front, thick bodied wth a touch of charred maltiness. Moves into a coffee and chocolate feel, light booziness and sweetness follow suit. Roast is impressive, warming stomach effect. Light sweetness of bittersweet chocolate and bitter coffee mesh well. Very light dark and dried fruit notes (Much lighter than everyone else seems to be indicating), subtle carmel and vanilla. Very nice brew. Glad I got to try it as it was getting to the end. Cheers!

Bottle. Dark black pour with a little lacing. Aroma was almost hot pepper spicy?! Flavor was mild, peppery and a little bitter, but very very good. Try to get some if you get a chance.

deep black with a red hue, short lasting head, aroma is intense with strong plum fragrance, backed up by coffee and dark chocolate impressions, I am not quite sure if i like the combination by it sure is unique. But it is in the mouth where this brew really performs. It starts out sweet and rich becomes dry and very typical stoutish in the middle and finishes with a ripe fruit notes and again dryes out n the far finish. nice to do this over and over again with every sip. Alcohol is never hot, almost not even warming, excellent!

Deep black with foamy brown head, very elegant. Aroma of chocolate and torrified coffee with a hint of caramel & whiskey... Taste is full, quite bitter with roasted malts and dark chocolate. The finish is more dry and hoppy, with a slight alcoholic note... Alchohol very well hidden.... is it 13%??? Want some more....

Pours black with a light brown head. Aroma is of chocolate, dark fruit, candy, roasted malt, and spice. Taste is of roasted malt, chocolate, sour fruit, spice, yeast, and alcohol. Long lingering alcohol bite. Lingering, bitter raisin taste. Thick, creamy mouhfeel. This beer is definitely a sipper. It’s a good mix of an imperial stout and a Belgian, but it’s hard to put down due to the alcohol and bitterness.
