Commercial Description:
This Belgian Royal Stout was brewed as a tribute to one of America’s best pubs. Jennifer and Chris Lively who run the place may be proud of Ebenezer’s Pub. Not only do they have 35 beers on draught, most of these are hard to find Supreme Belgian Ales. Above that, they have one of the most extensive bottle-conditioned beer lists through different bottling dates we have ever seen. Not only can you drink almost any Belgian beer, the worlds best brewery’s are represented. A lot of the guests talk about the American Kulminator, yet with that difference that the Belgian inspired food, is simply great. Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. Bottle. Dark brown black with a deep tan head, frothy with lacing. Brown sugar, chocolate, fruity, some esters, some honey traces with a touch of booze. Chocolate, sugary sweetness, a touch of booze, strawberries, a bit of hop bitterness at the finish. Full mouthfeel, round, a little drying alcohol in the finish.

Bottle, thanks to Allen for this nice surprise. Wood, honey, chocolate and strawberry aroma. Black, brown layer. Layered cake of flavors: Burned dark sugar, brine, strawberries, charred wood, Chocolate anf Coffe, which lingers on retronasal. Smooth mouthfeel, sweetness with staying power which stops at the right time, lightfooted and elegant. Chocolate covered cherries and whiskey in the aftertaste.

Bottle via Mys Swap 4 (thanks daknole!). Pours almost black with an average sized compact beige head. Nose is dark fruits, raisins, anise, and roasted grai. Taste is chocolate, rum, some spiciness. Very Belgian in character. Some piny hops in the aftertaste. Cannot believe this is 13% as alc is well-hidden. Also cannot believe 100ibus? Really? I would guess 50 max. Anyways a masterful awesome Belgian Imperial.

Black as night with a chocolate brown head, orange lacing on the glass. Buttery mouthfeel, smooth soy sauce. Nicely balanced carbonation, roasted malt, cocoa, candied sugar, dates, raisons, liquorish, hint of sourness. Cocoa seems to linger on palate.

It poured a pitch black liquid with a small brown foam that left a little bit of brown lacing on the side of the glass. It had a very strong and complex smell. Lots of different flavours where tugging at my nose. I found some chocolate, nuts, wood, yeast, soy sauce and something burned. It also had a spiceness to it that I couldn’t quite put into place. Very nice so far and I have to admit my expectations where rising. I tasted it and it was smooth and dry, it also had the complex taste similar to the smell. A mix of chocolate, smoke, nuts, wood, something burned and some liqourice fudge at the end. It also had this spiceness which I couldn’t quite put words into. It had a long aftertaste and I could feel it even as I was sitting on the subway home. A very complex, well balanced and interesting beer

Bottle thanks to StFun.Thanks Josh! Pours a deep brown/black with a huge dark tan head that seems to hold on forever. Smell is strong of chocolate, currants and some smoke. Flavor has the same notes, with a hint of orange. Carbonation is lightly effervescent, not overpowering. Finishes smooth and warm with a light alcohol burn.

oh my. This was an excellent beer. Bottle. Pours dark brown with thick dark head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, some sugar. Flavor was a delight.. Tasted almost like a coffee liquor loaded up with raw sugar and bitter sweet chocolate. Very well balanced, hops underneath.

Bottle thanks to golubj. Poured a very dark brown/black with a big, long lasting dark tan head. Not that thick looking of a pour. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, fruit, sugar, with a surprising amount of sweetness. A bit more cocoa and coffee emerge with time. Alcohol was well hidden. Flavor was good for me, but farm from great. A nice amount of sweetness and roasted flavors, but it didn’t mesh into anything that was better than the flavor components. Some licorice, earthiness and spice. Would have enjoyed a bit more caramel and cocoa presence. With time the sweetness became a bit annoying, because I thought it would go away a bit more. Palate was surprisingly thin; detrimentally so. Solid, but not an elite level beer for me.
