Commercial Description:
This Belgian Royal Stout was brewed as a tribute to one of America’s best pubs. Jennifer and Chris Lively who run the place may be proud of Ebenezer’s Pub. Not only do they have 35 beers on draught, most of these are hard to find Supreme Belgian Ales. Above that, they have one of the most extensive bottle-conditioned beer lists through different bottling dates we have ever seen. Not only can you drink almost any Belgian beer, the worlds best brewery’s are represented. A lot of the guests talk about the American Kulminator, yet with that difference that the Belgian inspired food, is simply great. Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. Bottle thanks to golubj. Poured a very dark brown/black with a big, long lasting dark tan head. Not that thick looking of a pour. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, fruit, sugar, with a surprising amount of sweetness. A bit more cocoa and coffee emerge with time. Alcohol was well hidden. Flavor was good for me, but farm from great. A nice amount of sweetness and roasted flavors, but it didn’t mesh into anything that was better than the flavor components. Some licorice, earthiness and spice. Would have enjoyed a bit more caramel and cocoa presence. With time the sweetness became a bit annoying, because I thought it would go away a bit more. Palate was surprisingly thin; detrimentally so. Solid, but not an elite level beer for me.

Very dark imperial stout. Tastes rather complex, and very surprisingly also refreshing, which I never discovered in a stout before! Nice.

A really good one, not throwing alcohol at your head. The taste is stronger than in another stout without being aggressive. And that brown foam really makes you feel like drinking it.

Bottle at Ebenezer’s. Thanks to Chris and Erica, our server, for pursuing it for me. Black with dark ring and lace. Roasted coffee dark fruit wood chocolate port aroma. Roasted chocolate licorice port espresso dark fruit with dry bitter roasted finish. Soft creamy effervescent mouthfeel. Awesome.

Another Belgian style stout that comes up short. Ink black with a viscous tan head. Big boozy black malt, earthy tobacco leaf, sharp caramel aromas. Rich frothy mouthfeel. Big black plum, apple, tobacco leaf sweetness - the good - then a dry cocoa and earthy yeast kicks in - the bad, for this beer - drinking it did not make me think "stout".

Bottle, bar, belgium. Coffee-black. Thick dark head. Smell of coffee, caramel, nuts, raisins. Flavour: full bodied, rich, sweet, caramel, malt, oak, chocolate and of course alcohol. Light bitter aftertaste. Fantastic!
