Aug 26, 2009 Bottle from UBer Tavern....thanks NIko for pointing this one out! Opaque blace.....half inch creamy tan head. Bit malt nose....vanilla, some alcohol....very yummy. Full bodied....darker, choco malts...vanilla flavor still prevalent....nice bitterness in the end. Not a show stopper but pretty darn good.

Aug 26, 2009 Bottle. Black colour with a big brown head. Aroma: Dark fruits, figs, dark berries, roast, chocolate, coffee, hops. Flavor: Roasted/burned malt, dark fruits, figs, cherries, coffee, quite a bit of hops, sweetness, caramel, chocolate, licorice, light alcohol notes, mildly sour. 1/3 Quad and 2/3 Imp.Stout=Black Albert. Very tasty stuff!

Aug 25, 2009 Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is dark fruit, chocolate, and alcohol. Flavor is lightly roasty, dark fruit, and a little coffee and chocolate.

Aug 25, 2009 11.6 oz. Deep black/brown pour with a lingering dark tan head. Roasty aroma, malt, light coffee. Chocolates and dark fruits also very apparent. Carbonation makes the mouthfeel a bit foamy, but not nearly as bad as some other Belgian Stouts, which frankly I have not cared for. This one thankfully, is much better. Flavor is very vinuous, chocolate covered fruits everywhere. Thick and slick, something to drink slowly. A slightly fruitier take in my opinion. Would not make it a regular, but worth trying.

Aug 24, 2009 Woke up one morning at 2:45 while on vacation and popped this open. Colour was ink black as expected and the pour left a suitable thick rocky head that receeded to a wispy froth on top. The smell was not strong, but held some boozy aromas. Taste was full of dark fruits, licorice spices, bitter caramel, heavily roasted barley, fig, rum cake, lightly toasted almond. Amazing. The chocolate espresso and coffee bean flavours come out nicely in the finish. The mouthfeel is balanced, firm, delicate, and malty. Being a 13% Stout, one might assume that this could be a sipper ala Black Hole or Dark Horizon; but Black Albert sits along the fence post; riding out the balance between a heady strong brew and a superbly drinkeable delicious beer!

Aug 23, 2009 Pours a nice black in which no light escapes. One finger head slowly rises giving way to a crown and thick lacing around the edges.
Smells of chocolate up front, alcohol second. Hints of caramel and toffee abound.
In the taste, the high ABV is well hidden. This is clearly a well made beer, with hints of belgian yeast and your chocolate and cream aftertaste. Very easy to drink considering it’s high ABV, with the sole detractor for me being the rather high carbonation for this heavy a stout.
All things equal (price being a big part of that) I would absolutely order this again, but as of now it’s scarcity would probably send me to offerings of this style that while may not be as high quality are worth it after the price/rarity differential.

Aug 22, 2009 The Dan Journal #259. Tasted 4/9/09. 12oz bottle. Pours thick and pitch. An activated pour produced a finger width of creamy, clinging beige head. Aromas of cocoa dust and fresh roasted coffee. Dark chocolate and toasted dark grains. Full bodied with a soft, super smooth mouthfeel. Followed quickly by the big coffee acidity and tart citrus astringeny. Sweet malt base with a pleasant dark, bitter chocolate note. Wine and chocoalte. Dark, dried fruit. Zippy, crisp finish. Interesting and spicy. Big palate that rolls over teh tongue in a very good way. Great opportunity to try this!

Aug 21, 2009 Bottle at Lions Pride. Pours a pitch black with a large tan, creamy head. Aroma is of liquorish, baking chocolate, roast. There is also a nice Belgian character that is notable in Allagash Black as well. significant fruit presence, plums and raisins. The flavor is sweet and roasty at the start and then mellows to a plumcake then the roast resurfaces in a great warming finish that seems to last for ever. Inspirational. I feel privileged
