Aroma is deep and almost fruity, mostly roasted malt but with a belgian touch. Flavor is pretty sweet and sugary with lots of mild coffee upfront and a caramel sweetness that’s pretty big in the finish. Mouthfeel is thick with a lot of carbonation and a cloying sweet finish. Some smoke comes out afterwards to cut through the sweetness. Hop bitterness is there but does not affect the flavor at all, but the sweetness is a little too much. Overall a pretty good beer.

Roasted coffee aromas, but not in the american or mikkeller way, a sweeter and meatier coffee. I also get grapes and alcohol here. Malty taste, quite sweet with a yeasty finish. The DC Blizzard of 2009 seemed like just the right night. Pours a slightly oily, slightly viscous, completely opaque black with a creamy, frothy, lacing tan head. Aroma is BIG, even from a foot away: wood, liquor, coffee, brown sugar, candy, burnt toast, light smoke, chocolate, freshly baked cookies, wet earth, tobacco. Flavor has lots of toasted grains and freshly toasted bread, coffee grounds, wood pulp, some very strong sweetness, milk chocolate, molasses, sticky fruits, mocha, vanilla, booze. Finish is thick, almost like a milk stout, with some alcohol heat down the throat. I couldn’t really find the hops that other elite Imperial Stouts have. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 19, 2009 Bottle:   Black as night, huge frothy light brown head, nice lacing.   Grape skin and cocoa nose.   Very slight barrel aging.   Not all that roasty.   Lots of purple grape popsicle like flavors on the tongue.   Through in a few licks of the stick and I think that’s it.   Roastiness is mild, the 13% ABV is non-existant.   Wow, this tastes just like a grape popsicle as you get down to the wooden stick.   What the hell?!?!   Body and mouthfeel are average.   It does feel a little silky though.   Hmmm, certainly unique.   Clean on the exit, malt sweetness gets a little sticky.   Shows more stout like aspects on the finish.   Good, but not what I was expecting at all.

Aroma of sweet dark caramel malt and some lactic character with plummy notes and bitter roastiness. Body starts fairly full and viscous with good dark caramel and chocolate sweetness with some alcoholic warmth and dark fruity complexity. It’s a very dark brown beer with a brown fine head. The beer has a port like odour with a hint of licorice. Whre you expect a sweet taste... it’s not there. Almost all the sugars are converted into alcohol.. Malty and licorice taste. With a nice bitterness which lasts. Very nice LanceUppercut (133), Sweden

I gotta admit I was a bit skeptical, even though I like other beers from Struise, mainly due to the fact that the foam resembled that of the Hercule IS that I didn’t find too exciting. The aroma was wonderful though, if only a bit sharp - Chocolate, liquorish and orange peel. The taste is subtle at first, and then the complex flavors creep up on you. Rum raisins, apples, calvados, red wine, chocolate and just a touch of alcohol in the finish. It’s elegant, fruity, and a bit acidic. An absolutely awesome beer! Works great together with Lindts chocolate with seasalt.
