Commercial Description:
Black Albert was used in a new barrel aging project. More than a year ago, Carlo was able to get his hands on a stock of Four Roses Bourbon barrels, and we happily filled them up with Batch „0". This unique creation was originally to be named 4 Black Roses in honour of its heritage, but our friends in Kentucky strongly advised us not to do so! What to do? As the disowned offspring of Black Albert, the name Cuvée Delphine imposed itself. Savouring the Belgian irony, we are most honoured to have artwork by Delphine Boël shining on this label. You will not find this ale all over the globe. There is no export program, but we will try to provide stock through our web shop and some specialty beer pubs.

Very sour aroma. Taste reminds of the Black Albert, but more refined. One of the best stouts I’ve had!

Bottle 150 cl. Pours a cloudy opaque black with a creamy beige head. Aroma of hard roasted malt, a little metal and a warming alcohol bite. Distinctly full-bodied, soft mouthfeel, hard roasted malts and vanilla, a little low in carbonation. Distinct alcohol burn. Very soft, smooth and quaffable. 110709

Thanks Jason! The beer pours to a pitch black body with a deep brown head and light lacing. The aroma is sweet and chocolatey with a lot of Four Roses bourbon. [I love that stuff] Perfectly blended aroma. The flavor is a deep chocolate and cocoa powder with a subtle, but definite Four Roses bourbon. The palate is medium-full bodied with a light dry cocoa powder and a warming but not boozy alcohol.

Bottle shared by Shawn, thanks dude!:

Basically opaque with some reddish highlights, creamy and sticky head. The aroma has a noticeable funky vinegar vapour along with coffee, chocolate, wood, grassy and herbal hops, and some plum and molasses esters. The taste is fruity and acidic with a funky overtone. Get more of the base chocolate and malt tone later on along with a dash of spicy and hoppy character. The finish is ashy and biscuity. The mouth feel is lively yet soft, chewy. As much as I like this funky version, it made me like the Black Albert I drank next to it even more. I really did not get much bourbon in this which is actually a good thing.

Bottled. Poured deep brown, not quite black, with a thick and easily-resuscitated cap of dark tan head. The aroma picked up toasty, chalky dark chocolates with accents of brown sugar and molasses.. the bourbon took a little while to develop, and provided some lovely oak and, well, bourbonny notes.. the final impression on the nose was char, tangy bourbon, and oak. The flavor found a bit sweeter chocolates than the nose, with coffee and a touch of molasses coming through.. the barrel didn’t give as much impression as I expected, but it worked.. sweet, tangy bourbon and toasty dark malts on the finish. Surprisingly creamy on the palate with a delightful impression from the barrel.. thicker-bodied with a long-lived finish.. this really grew on me, and it was perfectly balanced.
