Deep black body. Brown head. Quite soft, but intense aroma of strong malts with some smoke. Quite well balanced aroma. Moderately bitter, moderately sweet flavour. Very complex and intense flavour. Highly bodied flavour, but not 26%-like.

Out of a decanter at the struise farm. On the day of massive treats beyond reconning! Alround rating: Asd a big fan of all fortified wines(mainly port, maderia and old sherry) this is up there in that catagory, its not really a beer for me, as it plays with you in ways that beer does not and it doesnt taste like any beer iv ever had in the past either, even when mixed with batch 4 mikkeller struise! Its just massive, like sweet roasted chocolate, peppery alcohol blends with the fruit to make its like a thick fruit punch, peach syrup comes to mind. The alcohol is immencly weel hidden, yea i know its over 10% but nothering like one and a half times that. I had about 4 glasses of the stuff and watched in horror stupified by the fact that urban poued 2 or so glasses down the drain. An absolute pleasure and one i cant wait to have again.

75cl bottle I picked up at the Alvinne bottle shop in Belgium and shared with friends at TJ’s on 29.12.08. The beer poured a black so black and dense with a deep tan head but no real carbonation. The aroma had has some dark chocolate notes, wood as well. The taste is dried fruit and chocolate up front with some high abv notes although this is a pretty drinkable beer but best shared with friends. Definitely pick it up if you can.

[ Courtesy of Urbain and Carlo ]. Clear dark black color with a average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly lasting, light brown head. Aroma is heavy malty, roasted, burnt, chocolate, coffee, oak, cask wood, vanilla. Flavor is heavy sweet and bitter with a long long duration. The alcohol is very well hidden. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft and very smooth. ;o)) Thanks again Urbain and Carlo, [20081025]

Spitzen Bier!!!

2007 750mL bottle. Big thanks to my cousin, ggaughan, for sharing this monster! Pours very deep brown, capped with a minimal brown head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, raisin, cocoa, and alcohol (but does not seem like 26%). Intense, complex flavor, with dark fruits, especially prunes and raisins, along with cocoa, espresso, wood, and some alcohol. Thick bodied with minimal carbonation, providing a silky smooth mouthfeel. This was dangerously drinkable. Finishes a bit hot with prune and charcoal. Thanks again, Greg!

I am almost positive I drank this from a milk jug that Urbain handed me at Ebenezer’s Pub at there August Belgian Beer Fest. The aroma was full of chocolate and alcohol. It poured Black with no head. This beer was so complex I couldn’t even begin to describe it. It had a medium mouth feel. It hid the 26 abv very well. Awesome Beer. Thanks again Struise

Bottle@LCRBM08. Aroma has chocolate, coffee, bourbon, wine, vanilla. Very rich. Thick and slick black coloured beer. It is a sweet and heavy beer. Very full of taste (and alcohol) Has chocolate, wine, bourbon, coffee, some overripe fruits. Full bodied. Fantastic!
