Dark amber coloured with foamy white head going to a more thin, but lasting head. Very beautiful beer! Smells like a typical ale from de Struse Brouwers: malty, caramel, dried fruits, a bit spicy, and fantastic. The taste is nicely bitter in the beginning and in the end and is accompanied by some caramel taste, dakr fruits, a bit spicy becoming a hoppy beer. At the end the beer also has a yeasty taste. Very good balanced beer, but not what I should call a ’topper’. Savvy1982 (303), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 27, 2009 Bottle, huge thanks to hobbersr for sharing, and apparently to glouglouburp for trading it to him! Pours a very hazy orange with a thin white skim of foam. Looks like a gueuze to be perfectly honest. The aroma leaves no question that de Struise is involved in this beer, the yeast leaves you with no doubts. Mildly sour, brandyish (but not in a boozy way), stone fruit, fruit jellies, cherries, marmalade, licorice, overall a very complex nose. Palate shows the IBUs, with a lovely overall bitterness, and an initial bite of dying hops. Also an overall almost tannin-like mouthcoating bitterness lets you know the hops are/were here. Otherwise, has shades of Pannepot to it, licorice, bitter-root, candy, spice, fruit, not the most complex beer I’ve ever had, but very pleasant. Not so much the IIPA I was expecting though. hobbersr (396), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada

Pours a hazy orange with a white head that has very fine bubbles. Aroma is of apples, cherries, bread, peach, jube-jubes, and licorice... Smells like a Struise Belgian ale. Sweet malty, yeasty palate with a long bitter finish. Apples, cherries, apricotws, spice, licorice and bitterness. This may be a bit past it’s prime... Does not taste like an IIPA, but a decent Belgian ale. corby112 (736), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Pours a cloudy dark amber/ orange color with a huge foamy white head that settles into a thin lace that lasts throughout. Spicy aroma with hints of apple, pear, grape, floral and citrus hops, candi sugar, caramel, and alcohol. Very spicy and hoppy with sweet ctrus fruit up-front with some candi sugar, licorice, and sweet fruit followed by a spicy, hoppy sweet lingering, slightly bitter finish. Excellently balanced and very quaffable. Highly recommended. hopheadfett (50), Oak Ridge, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 24, 2009 Pours a cloudy amber with a thick, frothy, off white head that shrinks a tad, but holds nicely, great lace too. Nose of caramel prominent with a slight citrus hop aroma. Taste is initially sweet, big on the malt, only a tad spicy, finish is a decent bitterness from the hops, Overall an oddity, I consider it a belgian IPA, its delicious. jstraw (767), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Nose is floral hops. Taste is...weird. Yeasty, orange peal, some spiciness. Needs more hops, hard to believe this is 130 ibus? Not that great. Allen (1380), Switzerland
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 22, 2009 Updated: Aug 25, 2009Bottled 33cl. It pours a murky amber beer with a huge creamy, nicely remaining light beige head which leaves some lacework. Yeasty hoppy nose with hints of nutmeg, ginger, cardamom and slight spring onions (!). Yeast accentuated taste. Creamy palate. Subtle carbonation. Complex. Not overly bitter to my surprise, despite the fact that the beer has 130 IBUs. Long dry nutty finish which is reminiscent of Shōchū.
