Struise-Mikkeller is as we said in the past "Best of two worlds". We delivered an IPA with 130 IBU, but a bitterness hidden the Struise way, counter balanced by maltyness, alcohol and rest sugars. People who do not like Ipa’s will actually be amazed, the general hop bomb addict will not understand, so yes this is a controverse brew... enjoy anyway!

Bottle from Cracked Kettle. Opal body with frothy head. Very hoppy nose. Bitter taste with lots of hops. A wonderful IPA. Fruity and ginger, sure. But hops and bitter aplenty. A superb beer. Love it.

Bottled - coutesy of Phil and BeerMerchants.com. Many thanks as ever. Well, well, well. I think the Mikkeller boys had the day off when this bottle was brewed. It’s just Belgian through and through. No hop bomb at all. No American or Danish for that matter influence in this beer at all. Its’ got that Struise sugariness instead. It pours ginger with a large and lasting white head. Lots of fruitiness and yeastiness amongst the malts. It’s a good beer ain’t no doubt but certainly not what I was expecting and it’s no Pannepot..Score 3.6

11.2 ounce bottle courtesy of cdumler. Pours a brown color, muddy, though I got the dregs, which if how I like it. Aroma is sweet and sour sauce with spice, cherry and some mustiness. Taste is candi sugar, peach, woody hop notes, caramel and grapefruit. Full bodied.

Poured a cloudy amber with a tall fizzy/frothy white head. When cold, faint aroma of some light toffee and floral spiciness. As it warms, aroma develops notes of sweet candy sugar and some citrusy hops. Flavor is nice and complex, with bitter pine and grapefruit hop notes mixing with sweet toffee and some light ginger spiciness. Although there are several examples of hoppy belgian strongs, this is more of a Belgian take on an American double IPA, with lots of candy sweetness balancing citrusy hoppiness. The Belgian yeast esters work to make it a unique and refreshing beer. Nice.

(Rating #2069)

Bottle. An interesting and different double IPA compared to standard U.S. fare. Rust-colored body with a tight-bubbled head. The nose was moderately malty with notes of caramel, lightly hoppy with hints of flowers and citrus, and lightly yeasty with hints of tart fruits and earth. The flavor is moderately sweet and moderately bitter. The finish is lightly to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body with a velvety texture and lively carbonation. Still prefer a well-made super citrusy double IPA.
