Struise-Mikkeller is as we said in the past "Best of two worlds". We delivered an IPA with 130 IBU, but a bitterness hidden the Struise way, counter balanced by maltyness, alcohol and rest sugars. People who do not like Ipa’s will actually be amazed, the general hop bomb addict will not understand, so yes this is a controverse brew... enjoy anyway!

330 ml. Translucent, dark tea color with a lasting head. Sugary, earthy, white wine and citronella aroma. Flavor is grape coughdrop, honey, spicy lemongrass on front. Lots of citrus, medicinal alcohol, wood, and cardboard on the finish. Light body is sorta smooth, dry, and alcohol-hop tingly.

Rating 2400!! Bottle. Well here we are, 2400 ratings. I usually choose something rated over 4.0 for milestones but everything I have on hand that is rated that high is an Imperial Stout or something of the like and it’s much too nice out. It’s sunny and I’m craving hops so I went with this beer, which is appropriate in my opinion as it was brewed for RateBeer (and an average of 3.8 isn’t too shabby either). So, with that out of the way, here we go: Pours a hazy bubbly amber-gold with a huge lasting frothy off-white head. Great lacing. Poured the rest of the bottle in and now it’s murky with large floaties, I love it. Nice hop aroma (spicey, earthy and citrusy) along with malt, yeast, pepper and tropical fruit. Mildly acidic flavour of citrusy and spicy hops backed by caramel malt, yeast, light spices, fruit and a long, dry, bitter finish. Alcohol well hidden. Medium bodied, thick creamy mouthfeel. An interesting take on the style, I really enjoyed it -- well done!

[Bottle, thanks Akevitt and Marsiblursi!] Pours muddy orangish-brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is quite hoppy at first, then a huge amount of caramel sweetness with some yeast, a hint of strawberry and some lemon zest. Taste is a little sweet up front, then hoppy bitterness shows through, but it is not abrasive. Otherwise caramel malt heavy with yeast also present. Very creamy with good mouthfeel and an average, grainy, hoppy finish. Overall it is pretty good, but more like a barley wine than a IIPA.

(flask, tack för flasken Marsiblursi och Akevitt!) Pours a hazy orangish brown with a white head that settles but retains nicely. Aroma is initially very fruity, with some citrus and ambrosia salad scents. This scent abruptly changes to a sharp caramel, candi sugar sweetnes, that reminded of an aged barleywine, more specifically, an aged Bigfoot. There’s also a little bit of tartness in there along with some yeast. Taste is initially very sweet and fruity, with some pineapple and a lot of caramel, but this soon rounds out to a quite bitter and yeasty finish. The mouthfeel is full. Not bad at all.

330 ml bottle. Light copper colour. Tall off-white head that clings to the glass. Gentle hoppy aroma with münchener malt flavours. Very bitter flavours. Sharp and acidic. Quite nice.

Bottle. Pours a copper body with a big white head. Aroma is strong hoppiness of earthy character and some citrus. There is also some funk in this one, as well as etoh, and some maltiness to counterbalance the hops.

Pours a nice copper color with a huge fluffy brown head. Big hop flavor gives way to a nice residual sweetness. Smell and flavor of a citrus hop dominates the flavor. Enjoyable beer...

Big offwhite head. Brown body. Fruity citric hop and malts aroma with rubbery notes. Dry-sweet tropical fruit hop taste with again rubbery notes. Rated this too late in the evening, so need to rerate it. As the notes say: "Rating is shit, beer is decent." (0.33l bottle at Ole_R’s.)
