Struise-Mikkeller is as we said in the past "Best of two worlds". We delivered an IPA with 130 IBU, but a bitterness hidden the Struise way, counter balanced by maltyness, alcohol and rest sugars. People who do not like Ipa’s will actually be amazed, the general hop bomb addict will not understand, so yes this is a controverse brew... enjoy anyway!

33cl bottle; Cloudy, dark amber colour with a huge and dense tanned foamy head. Aromatic aroma of flowery, fruity and spicy hops with a mildly sweet malty background and notes of caramel, cough syrup and yeasts. Quite bitter flavour with shy sweet malty notes, full bodied with a well-carbonated mouthfeel. Dominating aroma-hoppy taste on a robust malty base with a cornucopia of flavours like caramel, cough syrup, liquorice and spicy accents. Long lasting, almost dry-ish finale with a very good bitterness-sweetness ratio. That´s a bingo ! 14.IX.09

Bottle. Pours a brownish ruby colour with loads of beige head that lasts for ages and leaves a lot of lacing. Nose is strong and delicious with pepper, coriander, yeast, toffee and sweet malt all standing out. The flavour is fairly similar to the aroma but with the addition of cinnamon, almonds and something else I can’t put my finger on but makes me think of celery. Full bodied with a long finish, this is a great beer, well worth the effort it takes to find it in Melbourne (and the price).

Very carbonated, the glass fills with an off white creamy head. Excellent lacing, too much foam. The color is a caramel brown. The aroma is very hoppy, citrus and maybe a little raisin. The initial flavor is creamy, bitter, very tasty. Some light maltiness, caramel taste. A very good beer and I think it will age good too.

Pours a nice hazy orange with thick creamy white head, lots of lacing and head retention. Aroma very nice of an array of hops, lots of citrus, slight malt backbone, and slight bread. Flavor matches well, but the yeast strains in this give it a different character that I find really enjoyable. Very solid beer that I would definitely go back to.

Lots of carbonation out of the bottle, but that might have been because of handling. Drank it a bit warm, but it was delightful. Solid hop aroma with fruit. Forced to drink out of the bottle. flavor is hops with some sugary sweetness underneath.

Poured with a lot of foam, is this infected or over carbonated? I tried to pour gently but still got a head of beer in my glass, the ale looks to be a hazy ruby with lots of bubbles, gave an off-white head that was over flowing with life which almost completely filled the glass, lots of lacing on the glass (but this beer foamed all over the place like it was infected), aroma of pale malts (but there is a lot of foam in the glass), toasted malt, caramel, faint aromas of oranges, lemons, honey sweetness, not much of a hop aroma on the nose, faint dark fruit of raisin, flavors of toasted malt, citrus and some dark fruit, sort of mimics the aromas except there is some hop bitterness on the palate with a hint of mint, has a touch of citrus bite on the palate (infected?), the bite on the tongue kind of reminds me of the infected beers I have had. The only thing I can positive about this beer is that the alcohol was hidden well, this is disappointing, nothing to give a wow or interest when sampling, oh well, does not resemble a DIPA at all, pretty poor offering of a beer, I do not recommend.

First and foremost in an improper form I had to promptly suck the head off the glass as it started to overflow......No good. The head on this is absolutely enormous. Pour is coppery dark brown. Smell is a bit piney, a hint of cardboard, some spice and some citrus, but damn little at that. Flavor is a bit odd. Some pine resin and some citrus, but a shit ton of malt. For a collaboration ale I expected more....but didnt get it. Lots of tingle on the lips, the ABV rearing its ugly head in places, but not right out front. Reasonable, yet marginal.
