Great looking hazy deep golden pour. White fluffy head...had to wait awhile to drink this after my clumsy. heavy-handed pour. Big PNW hop notes. Sweeter than I really like in my IIPA’s, but not offensively so. bread/biscuity crystal maltiness, very well balanced by an shit-ton of hops in the massive bitter finish. Very well brewed!

Dec 14, 2009 Bottled. Cloudy, dark honey pour. Dense tawny head. Nose is caramel malt and hop resin. Flavor is sweet caramel, dessert spices, grapefruit, alcohol, candy sugar, hop resin. Intense hop finish balances the sweetness of the malt quite well.

Dec 14, 2009 Pours hazy red/brown, big tan head. Massive hoppy aroma of grapefruit. Verging on peppery, kinda burns the nose even. Awesome caramalt aroma underlying everything.
Initial flavour is sweet malt, quickly overtaken by huge bitter hops, very citric. Bitterness builds with each sip. There is some Belgian-ness near the finish. What a wonderful fusion of American and Belgian styles.

Dec 13, 2009 Bottle pours cloudy copper-orange with an decent sized off white head. Aroma smells of peach, pink grapefruit, pine, caramel, and slightly yeasty. Flavor shows the same with additional notes of citrus and spice(coriander & white pepper?). Starts sweet and finishes dry with a touch of alc. Overall body is moderate and oily with soft carbonation. It’s amazing how balanced this is considering the 130 IBU’s.

Dec 13, 2009 Pours clear deep golden with a frothy white head. Aroma is fruity with dried apricot. Taste is sweet and bitter with a long and heavily alcoholic finish. Medium to full bodied with a syrupy texture. Recommended!

Dec 11, 2009 Bottle. Dated A/3/09. Pours a dark copper color with a huge big foamy white head. Head recedes to a small filmy white head with lots of spotty lacing. Very cloudy and mostly opaque. Nose is heavy caramel with some sweet malt notes and hints of piney hops. I believe the hops may have fallen out of this one. Palate is big, full, fioamy and stings the palate. Flavors of caramel malts with quite a bit of resiny and piney hop notes (guess they didnt all fall out). There is a light dirtiness to it that leaves a film all over the palate, kinda chewy. Finish is quite bitter with a sting on the throat.

Dec 7, 2009 Pours a thick five+ finger cream head that fades very slowly leaving a good lace. Cloudy amber color. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Grapefruit/pine nose. Flavor is grapefruit hops, some sweetness. Lingering bitter aftertaste. Pricey at $8.75 for a 330ml bottle from Tully’s Beer and Wine Wells, ME.

Dec 6, 2009 11.2oz bottle from bruisin’ ales. pours a dark, copper-orange with a thick, half-inch, eggshell head and great lacing. aroma is great and quite different with sweet, sugary, floral hops, pink grapefruit, orange peel, vanilla, and a touch of dank grass with hints of cherry, toffee malts, and belgian spice. flavor is excellent as with big citrus hop notes of orange, white grapefruit, and lemon zest up front backed bitter, resinous pine and earthy, grass notes with sugary, caramel malts and a spicy, bitter, hop finish. palate is on the full side of medium bodied with prickly carbonation and a smooth, well disguised alcohol presence. overall, a wonderful, artistic, yet brazenly bitter interpretation of the double ipa.

Dec 3, 2009 12 oz bottle. Found this little treasure at my local liquor store, so I figured I’d give it a try, since Mikkeller is one of my favorite brewers. Pours a HUGE 4 finger high light tan head that stays for quite a while (improper storage maybe?). It is such a potent head that it almost reminds me of marshmellow fluff. Smells of a ton of malt, a bit of yeast, some hops, and a bit of citrus. Tastes like a barley wine. Lots of malt, and an alcohol warming sensation. Hard to swallow. Interesting, but weird.
