After that first smell, the hops practically disappeared, replaced with lots of spices and candi sugars (and bleu cheese?). Taste is super sweet, spicy, and extremely bitter. I do not think that the journey to America treated this beer well at all. Obvious that a lot of work went into this, but not good at all as I experienced it.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 7, 2009 Pours a thick five+ finger cream head that fades very slowly leaving a good lace. Cloudy amber color. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Grapefruit/pine nose. Flavor is grapefruit hops, some sweetness. Lingering bitter aftertaste. Pricey at $8.75 for a 330ml bottle from Tully’s Beer and Wine Wells, ME. ksurkin (394), Norfolk, Virginia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 6, 2009 11.2oz bottle from bruisin’ ales. pours a dark, copper-orange with a thick, half-inch, eggshell head and great lacing. aroma is great and quite different with sweet, sugary, floral hops, pink grapefruit, orange peel, vanilla, and a touch of dank grass with hints of cherry, toffee malts, and belgian spice. flavor is excellent as with big citrus hop notes of orange, white grapefruit, and lemon zest up front backed bitter, resinous pine and earthy, grass notes with sugary, caramel malts and a spicy, bitter, hop finish. palate is on the full side of medium bodied with prickly carbonation and a smooth, well disguised alcohol presence. overall, a wonderful, artistic, yet brazenly bitter interpretation of the double ipa. soccer290 (137), Highland Park, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 3, 2009 12 oz bottle. Found this little treasure at my local liquor store, so I figured I’d give it a try, since Mikkeller is one of my favorite brewers. Pours a HUGE 4 finger high light tan head that stays for quite a while (improper storage maybe?). It is such a potent head that it almost reminds me of marshmellow fluff. Smells of a ton of malt, a bit of yeast, some hops, and a bit of citrus. Tastes like a barley wine. Lots of malt, and an alcohol warming sensation. Hard to swallow. Interesting, but weird. gyllenbock (296), Stockholm, Sweden

Nice dark color, large white foam. A lot of interesting aromas and flavors, including fruit, caramel, cider, strawberries and chocolate. The body was fairly strong, the beer was nicely balanced. The closure was dry. Interesting and exciting. SorenE (116), , New Zealand

Very spritzy carbonation. aroma of pineapple, lemon and cider. musty sweet mouthfeel, think there’s some funk in there too., wartming finish from the alc. sinkr (219), Lusby, Maryland, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 26, 2009 Bottle->honker: pours a medium, frothy offwhite head atop a murky brown body. Aroma of lemons and sweetness. Sweet taste, some citrus, and a full body. Good character, but at the expense of being cloying. I’m in a full-bodied beer funk, sorry. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Nov 25, 2009 Traded bottle. Hazy copper/bronze pour with plenty of carbonation building a large, khaki head. Big, bubbly lacing. Fairly gentle aroma of spruce, malt and some alcohol. Seriously, 130 IBUs? The flavour was sweet citrus hops but the finish brings in the resins. Dry finish. Super balanced considering the 130 IBUs because I never would have guessed it. diabel (1372), Aarschot, Belgium
