Beerlando (1135), Orlando, Florida, USA May 9, 2008 Pours a lightly cloudy cola brown color. A large, foamy, tan colored head settles slowly to a wispy, creamy film. A sudsy wash mostly rejoins the body, with scant lines of lacing remaining behind. The aroma shows tons of candy sugar, caramel, fig and dark spice. A wave of tannic fruit, including overly ripe red apples, lends depth and a certain sourness to the nose. Flavors are basically the same, with caramel covered figs and apples showing quite sweet. A touch of spicy, floral hops lend some balance, though this one still falls well short of the median on the bitterness scale. Medium-full and creamy, the body slides down incredibly easily, leaving a lingering sweet and sour coating on the tongue. Drinks quite nice, but this just doesn’t hold a candle to the regular Pannepot. There is an intangible magic in that brew that this one doesn’t capture.
Doppelganger (1080), Oxford, Oxfordshire, England Jul 17, 2008 Bottle, at cgarvieuk’s, with Stella, the kids, and Traci. Really great tasting Craig—thanks! Esp nice of you to pull this one out to share with me, even though you’d had it already. Deep brown, nice layer of tan head. Peppermint, dark resiny chocolate and mahogany aroma. Sweet resiny caramel flavor, milk chocolate, hints of spice around the edges. Just a little lingering sweet. Not sure if I could tell this from Pannepot blind, but that’s not a bad thing at all. shrubber85 (2408), Wallhalben, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany Jul 17, 2008 Bottle. Prune/raisin/cherry plus soy sauce with hints of cinnamon and vanilla. Murky orange-brown color with a moderate head. Sweet dried fruit (cherry/apricot), white pepper and astringent alcohol flavor. A bit rougher than regular Pannepot. Nice strong beer. antzman (301), Clarksville, Indiana, USA Jul 14, 2008 11.2 oz bottle. Pours a murky brown with a ton of foam. Lacing all over the glass. Strong aroma of dark fruits, spice, brown sugar. The taste is slightly sweet, with raisins, dates, plums, and a bit of spice. Very malty. pantanap (667), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 12, 2008 12oz bottle from a recent trade. thanks to whoever that was!.... dark milk chocolate brown pour with an almost toppling thick light brown head.... fresh pungent ripened fruit minus the in-your-face spiciness offered by the US version.... flavors of sweet dark ripened fruit which was very much sweet and malt dominated. still a very nice full mouthfeel with somewhat of a metallic aftertaste.....nice but i still very much prefer the US version. mattmc1973 (101), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA Jul 11, 2008 33cl bottle obtained at West Lakeview Liquor in Chicago. Pours a cloudy red/brown, after a geyser of foam opening the bottle. Aroma strongly of figs, spice, and brown sugar. Taste sweet, slight spice, and slightly acidic. Creamy and smooth mouthfeel. Very nice beer!
